On Saturday Duke Alumni held a Duke Night at Howard University for a Men's basketball game against NC Central U. Coincidentally, my wife had given me a Christmas gift of two courtside tickets for this game, knowing my brother would be in DC. So he and I attended. We cheered on my classmate, Coach Blakeney, assistant Coach Tyler Thornton, and the Bison team. As a bonus, the honorary co-captain for the game was Reggie Love. I also ran into a classmate of mine in the concourse. It was a great atmosphere and an exciting game. The basketball, the banners in the rafters, the band, cheerleaders, dance squads, and mascot were all things I love about college hoops. Friends have been telling me about it for years, and I'm late to it. But if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend for anyone who will be in DC at the right time, enjoys college basketball and cares about the Duke community to attend a Howard home game.
