I have been wondering lately why Hurley gets away with stuff that K would have been excoriated over. I can only think that he's always been very friendly with the media, which K certainly was not.I feel like that could have been Coach K 30 years ago.
This adds one more reason why I don't like uconn at all... which began in 1999Do not love him!
This guy, currently the face of college basketball, is some piece of work. Love him? Hate him? Whatever, the dude is undeniable...it almost seems like a satire of a possessed college basketball coach.
The main thing is that for a coach to be successful he must have the respect of his team. There are all kinds of styles that can work. Hurley's style works for some and not for others.Good Lord is that guy intense. It's honestly almost hard to stomach, for me. Not because I don't respect it, just because being that relentlessly aggressive is exhausting to watch even in a 10-minute snip, let alone perpetually. His views on burnout just sort of put an exclamation point on his attitude. He's for real, I'm just not sure I'm personally wired to respond to that sort of personality. As a fan or as a player.

Ah yes, another successful graduate of the Patches O’Houlihan School of CoachingThanks for posting the video, but this belongs in the General MBB Preseason Discussion thread. The Connecticut board posts Duke threads because they have that obsession, and not the other way around.
I think it's fair to compare Dan Hurley 2024-2025 to Coach K 1992-1993, when the latter still had a mostly positive relationship with the national media. To these outsider's eyes, both coaches are/were determined to maintain a high level of intensity year-round, when the prevailing tendency is to be somewhat relaxed and celebratory. Their approaches are very different, though; Coach K has a philosophical polish that comes with being an author/lecture circuit type, and some people find that off-putting. Coach Hurley wears his emotions on his sleeve, sometimes to his detriment, and there are people who like that.
Not drawing any comparisons, but the phrase "satire of a possessed college basketball coach" reminded me of this SNL skit:
And how much the two of them are like Bobby Hurley Sr.I wonder how different Bobby is in practice, considering his in game persona is pretty intense and demonstrative.
Danny had to put up with his big brother always outperforming him, and now he's making up for it.
