Climate Change

Was -7 (F) at our house this morning and I'm dealing with frozen pipes. I am praying for some short-term global warming.
Back in the 70's, when we were to fear global cooling, I remember my next door neighbor ha vin frozen pipes and asking if he could run a hose over from my house. I of course said fine but asked if thought the hose running outside might freeze. Ooops!

same temp here...I've gotten out of practice a bit myself recent winters have been so warm.
I've been leaving cabinets open under sinks the last few days and keeping the thermostat turned up higher at night than usual....anything to avoid frozen pipes.

I'm absolutely floored by the 8.5" that Ocracoke got this week. I would LOVE to be there for that
We got 5" here in New Bern. We went sledding yesterday for the first time in about 5 years. (Hit the local overpass, only hills around.) Back then, we had a predicted storm coming, so we bought sleds. That snow never happened, so this is the first significant snowfall we've had in a long time, and the first time we've gotten to use our "brand new" sleds.
Oddly, the snows I HAVE been here for, were also between 5 and 9 inches. Usually by the next day it's nothing, but in this case it's stayed below freezing until later today when we top out at 36. (Hasn't gotten above freezing yet, though, and it's 1pm)

We are enjoying our few inches of snow. My old guy likes to sit on my boots .ignore my sweat pants .

Just visited my hairtician for a cut, and her husband has been trying to install a new dam on the Winooski River in this weather. Temps below zero yesterday and nothing fit properly into anything else.

We are in the process of building a new house, which right now is at the foundation stage. All of the block, plumbing and electrical conduit has been installed, so only the concrete pad is left to pour.
It would have been done 2 weeks ago, but we are in the midst of the longest cold snap that eastern NC has had in over a decade. We need temps back in the 50s to get our concrete done.

By the way, if memory serves, this kind of weather here is only less than normal of late. It seems that while growing up, "winter" was more "wintery".

I just can't seem to wrap my head around this idea.

Ya I have no idea why they don’t wait a few months. Perhaps because they are a very small power company serving only Burlington and this represents much of their capacity?

Shared without commentary.

Hours after being sworn in as the new U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy took aim at the main way the federal government regulates miles per gallon for cars and pickup trucks — also a principal way that it regulates air pollution and addresses climate change. Duffy ordered the federal agency in charge of fuel economy standards to reverse them as soon as possible. The standards have been in place since the 1970s energy crisis and were intended to conserve fuel and save consumers money at the gas pump.

Not for billionaires and multi-millionaires. Their tax cuts will ease their pain.
Yesterday Shell announced that’s it walk away from its NJ wind farm and talking a billion dollar write off. Of course they will make it back in this new world order.

I’m just going to lean into the nihilism now.
