2024 Olympics - General commentary

It is amazing that the US woman still got bronze after falling multiple times and needing a bike change. They said she fell so hard that she could hardly walk at the end. Having fallen on my road bike (at a slightly lower speed that they are riding), I am surprised she could recover so quickly.
I believe Dygart only fell once but recovered enough to get bronze. I think this was just her 3rd or 4th race for the year. Knibb fell 3 times and had the bike change.

Are there any spoiler rules for this thread, or is it buyer beware? I'm going to watch some stuff on delay, so I'd like to know if I have to leave this thread alone for the duration, or if there's a "safe" period.

For my part, I'd suggest not posting specific results for at least 12 hours. For people in the U.S., that gives at least a fighting chance to go through most of the wee hour events a little later in the day. Afternoon events would be "safe" for the rest of the normal day (I'm assuming that nearly all of us are in a U.S. time zone).

See once again this shows why I should not trust my husband to pay attention. I saw one fall but didn’t see the rest. He told me she was the one with multiple falls and the bike change. It’s not the first time he has been wrong.

Well, that lets me out. I can’t remember anything for twelve hours.
Certainly I won’t remember my complaints,

Not only did Knibb fall and need a bike change, her mechanic fell while bringing her the new bike.

Here's a webpage with links to downloadable .ics calendars for individual Olympic sports sorted by country.

For example you can import only USA Basketball or Fiji Rugby, etc. Men's and Women's are both included, if applicable.

Instructions are included at the top. This is not mine; I came across it from some searching. I tested a few of them and they work well.

Lifting in line outs used to be illegal. I do not like it. They are even more ungainly in Sevens.

My playing days crossed the line out lifting development, and I think it was a positive change. Lifting turned a man-to-man matchup into a 3-on-3 sport, in which better teamwork could overcome one player’s natural or developed ability. Plus, it’s fun, especially for ordinarily ground-bound players like me who found themselves rising and floating over their fellow forwards for a brief graceful moment, usually followed by my knocking forward the delivered ball.

In the Olympic context, I think it provides another visual hook to the game that casual viewers find fun and intriguing. The scrum is by far the sport’s iconic moment, and so I like that viewers see other elements of the game on flattering display. I believe football remains the beautiful game when passes are delivered by hand.

I am glad you are enjoying the rugby! This form being played is a variant called Sevens, which uses 7 players a side with 7 minute halves versus

Lifting in line outs used to be illegal. I do not like it. They are even more ungainly in Sevens. Rugby keeps fiddling with the laws to give the attacking team more advantages. However, that used to be the fun of line outs. The team throwing the ball always has the advantage of knowing where along the line the ball is going to be thrown, but the other side had more of a chance to steal it.IMG_20161008_170305064.jpg
I agree about not being a fan of lifting, but I love this picture
