2024-25 NET/Bracketology Thread

SMU is now 30 spots ahead of Wake in the NET. If we care about a 4th bid for the conference, we are Mustang fans now.

Torvik gives UNC a 12% chance of winning out on their next 6 before the Duke game.

Or the conference.

I'm still wrestling with the idea that the ACC has twice as many teams and will likely get fewer than half as many bids as the halcyon days of yore.
Our fan favorite; Lunardi, has 14 SEC and 3 ACC teams in. Mind blowing and the mighty ACC has same # in as Mountain West.

I have real concerns that our ceiling in the tourney not as high as perceived by many. Are we really better than Kansas and Kentucky (early losses on neutral courts) or are the big wins over hapless ACC teams a mirage?

As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, since the NET began in 2018-19, teams from lower rated power conferences (4th, 5th, 6th best power conferences) have performed much better in the NCAA tournament than teams from higher rated power conferences (1st, 2nd, 3rd best power conferences). Doesn't mean it will happen that way this year, but it does mean that playing in a "lesser" conference doesn't necessarily affect your tournament ceiling.

Rested and ready is the other side of the coin from battle tested

No link yet -- I watched the early bracket reveal live on CBS just now -- but the Selection Committee did their dry run of the top 16 teams in the field, one month before Selection Sunday.

SOUTH/Atlanta

1 Auburn (1 overall)
2 Texas A&M (6)
3 Wisconsin (11)
4 Texas Tech (13)

MIDWEST/Indianapolis

1 Alabama (2 overall)
2 Purdue (7)
3 Iowa State (9)
4 Kansas (15)

EAST/Newark

1 Duke (3 overall)
2 Tennessee (5)
3 Arizona (12)
4 St. John's (16)

WEST/San Francisco

1 Florida (4 overall)
2 Houston (8)
3 Kentucky (10)
4 Michigan (14)

Edited to add: NCAA.com has the 1-16 ranking, but they don't show the breakdown by region.

March Madness put the early bracket reveal on YouTube:

I really don't want to play Tennessee in the tournament....

UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham chairs the Selection Committee, and whether or not he can get his Heels in the field, he'll use his influence to make Duke as miserable as possible.

Tennessee is consistently physical and will remind us of 2023. Arizona would mean we're not necessarily done with Caleb Love, and will remind us of 2022. St. John's would love to play an hour away in Newark. (The venue is the Prudential Center, Seton Hall's home floor. St. John's already played there once this year, and former Seton Hall player Kadary Richmond called it home for 3 years.)

If Duke were to stay in this position -- 1 seed in the East Region -- it's hard to imagine a worse 2/3/4 one month from now. (Maybe a second SEC team, or a rematch with Kentucky or Kansas?)

I’m not distraught, but sometimes these things get baked in, I’m afraid. Looking at this, I agree with Brevity - hard to imagine a worse 2, 3, or 4.

How can they virtually give St. John’s a home game? Remember 2017.

We would only have to play one of Tennessee or Arizona. I would prefer Caleb Love over Tennessee’s physical style. But neither would be a great option.

And I agree, Bubba will not hesitate to make it as difficult on us as he can.

Wow, he shows his true colors. That’s should be an embarrassment for the committee as he comes across as another Kenny Smith.
I agree. How childish, unprofessional, and embarrassing that is. Can you imagine Coach K, Scheyer, or anyone in Duke’s athletic administration, acting that way? No wonder their fans behave the way they do.

So does this behavior mean he will recuse himself when Duke, and our potential regional opponents, are discussed? 🙄

As I expected, the loss to Clemson didn’t knock Duke out of the 1st seed in the East. The SEC will keep beating itself up. Even another quality loss probably won’t knock Duke off that line. As long as Duke doesn’t lose more than 1 more and wins the ACC tourney, I think they should be good.
