2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Watching Arkansas tonight trailing by 12 at the half at home to a good Georgia team (they've since narrowed it to 5), they just look listless. Calipari may have truly lost his mojo at this point. He had every tool in the toolbox available to him when he took the job and fled UK. Yet this team just looks, well, utterly mediocre. How has Johnell Davis dropped from an 18ppg scorer to 8?

I'm not defending Calipari or how horrible Arkansas has looked this year (I grew up there as a fan and still follow them) but it's worth pointing out that Arkansas (somehow) came back and won this game.

Much better energy in the second half. Arkansas was also playing without their best player, freshman Boogie Fland, who is probably out for the season with a broken hand.

Thanks for the jinx lol

Yeah, you don't have to toss him. All the refs need to get together and agree to start giving him quick Ts. He will quickly learn how to behave.
Has he always acted like this? As I listened to the press conference in which he swore repeatedly, feigned a smidgen of self awareness and mostly continued to blame others I found myself being even more grateful for Jon Scheyer.

I don't think he's always been this way. I think his ego has really gotten away from him. And this season is begging the question. How much of those two titles were due to coaching and how much due to Donovan Clingan, the perfect college big man?

Maryland really taking it to Illinois tonight in Champaign.
Got beat by 20. Illini has now lost 3 of their last 4, have 6 losses overall, and still have the following difficult games in addition to the Duke game:

Northwestern (already lost to them once, albeit on the road)
Ohio State
at Rutgers
UCLA
Michigan State
at Wisconsin
at Michigan
Purdue

After a terrific start, the Illini may end up a double digit loss team. Wow.

The beauty of sports is that we will find out. Remember when Duke fans wished that a Duke coach could be more like Pitino, Donovan, Calipari, Bennet or Hurley?

It’s an amazing accomplishment reaching the heights. It’s something else to do it with entirely different teams.

Some Duke fans. I argued with a few of them. I love our guy. He's really hitting his stride in year 3.

Some big games today. Houston is at Kansas and Tennessee is at Auburn. Broome may be back for Auburn, at least in limited minutes.
I’m will be pretty surprised if Houston wins. The Cougars put a massive beat down on the Jayhawks in their last meeting (last season) and of course the game is at Kansas…

Can't play golf, so going to the bar with the boys to do some day drinking and watching games.

ACC: I really hate that the ACC sucks so bad this year.
SMU favored by 3 over the wuf pak. Go Stangs!
No way Va Tech takes down Clemson or BC takes down the cheats.
Those are the only 2 games that I'll pay attention to.

T25: A lot of really good games.
AU/TN should be a great game. Would love to see TN pull that one out
HU/KU: HU hasn't beaten a Q1 team yet. I think KU gets it done at home.
Go X, F Hurley/UConn.
Hopefully Vandy takes out the kittens.
Rutgers could snipe the Spartans.

As “NYC’s team”, Rutgers moved the game to MSG. (My niece and sister are going to the game.).

Back in the early fall, when Rutgers’ top two recruits were thought to lead the team to the top 25, this looked like a great matchup. Now, not so sure.

Ahem, Houston is “UH”

I stumbled upon this article by way of Reddit. It's interesting in its own right, but I'm curious if anyone knows where similar game-duration data can be found for Duke games? I would be interested to see how average Duke game duration this season compares to previous seasons...

SEC basketball has best product, but league is getting to be unwatchable
They allude to this being a problem with the officials calling too many fouls. I contend that it’s the very physical style of play. Probably too physical for basketball, IMHO.
