2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

Fascinating that the transfer from Duke who had the best night was Blakes. Roach and Mitchell both had meh stat lines. Stewart only got 13 minutes in a competitive game (yay to seeing a ranked SEC team go down, though). Good for Reeves getting some court time (in a blow out, though).
Detailed elsewhere? Jaylen Blakes started and played 29 mins for Stanford against Denver. Stat line of 12-2-6.

There will be times throughout this season where saying "Same Jeremy Roach" will be a compliment, but after one game he's the same Jeremy Roach in a not great way, bolstering my belief his departure was as good for Duke as I thought it could be.
I watched the first half last night, and a bit of the second. Jeremy is competing with several smallish guards to be Baylor’s main PG. Last night the main PG was Flagg’s Montverde teammate, freshman Rob Wright III. It’s fair to think of Jeremy as a CG, so, as at Duke, sometimes he’ll initiate the O, get a few assists; more often, he’ll shoot 3s or drive into the lane for a pull-up. Wright seems much more likely to be the actual PG.

Btw, Omier looked good for Baylor. Lots of guys looked good for Gonzaga.

Maybe need a "how did the ex-Duke guys do" thread. Christian Reeves played 7? minutes for Clemson and scored. Jaden Schutt played 29? minutes and shot 3-6 from 3 for VaTech.

Not sure where to put this, but three of Duke’s next five games are against ranked teams (Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas). Great way to see where we are and where we need to improve.

Gonzaga lost a scrimmage to USC a week ago. They are probably really good, but this score line probably was a fluke.
Watched a lot of the game. Gonzaga absolutely dominated inside and made their 3s. Baylor looked frantic and lost on offense. Drew is definitely not trusting Jeremy to be that veteran PG.

Villanova loses at home to Columbia, 90-80.
Only 2 days after struggling to beat Lafayette in their opener.

Kyle Neptune has taken one of the top 5 programs in the nation and turned them into a club that struggles to get to .500. They play super slow and are not interesting to watch. They clearly have a decent NIL budget as they brought in some good recruits and transfers, including Wooga Poplar from Miami.

If they don't find a way to more than 20 wins this year and a trip to the Dance, I think Neptune will be fired after this season.

not sure which is a better name, Kyle Neptune or Wooga Poplar...

Niagara falls to Michigan State, 96-60, despite seemingly having the Spartans over a barrel early in the second half, trailing by only 4.

Wow. It took me a second read to get the first part, and a third read to notice the second part.

Greg Paulus is Niagara’s coach. I wonder if, in his postgame press conference, he talked about his team’s play toward the end: how many shots they Maid and how many they Mist.

Always heard the Canadian side was better…

An potentially unfortunate situation is coming to light in Gainesville. Florida head coach Todd Golden has received Title IX complaints for allegedly sexually harassing and stalking several women on campus.
