Taylor Swift has broken the record for most number 1 albums by a female artist and she broke the record with a cover album of her own songs. If you don't know the story it's really fascinating; Swift owns the writing rights to her songs but the actual recordings belonged to the label. The label sold the songs to a PE fund owned by a guy that she hates (some Kanye issues and other stuff). Swift decided to use a loophole in the copyright law (maybe that's not entirely correct, an attorney can correct me) and rerecorded the songs since she is the writer. The crazy thing is that she wanted to make the master copies worthless, so she has spent lots of time and money to exactly replicate her old catalogue basically making the new recording indistinguishable from the originals. Even crazier, her fans are buying the music even though most own the original already. The power of Taylor Swift is real.

We recently saw Tears For Fears, and the encore was interesting. They kicked it off with a cover of Radiohead's Creep.
It was surprising given that had a ton of their own songs that they hadn't played yet. They did a great job with it, though. (The whole concert was excellent.)

I think that most people are aware that Sinead O’Connor’s biggest hit “Nothing compares 2 u” was a remake of Prince’s original. I’m sure it was covered plenty more times but my favorite is Chris Conrnell’s version. All three versions are great, which is a testament to Prince’s writing genius. Sadly all three artists are gone now. Here are all three:

I never liked that tune, and after listening to Chris Cornell and Prince, I still don't like it. But I do think Prince's version was the best of the three.
