Duke at the 2014 U20 Women's World Cup

There are two Duke players representing their countries in the tournament in Canada, which starts on Tuesday.

Christina Gibbons and the United States open against Germany at 7:00pm EDT on ESPNU.

Rebecca Quinn and the hosts start against Ghana at 8:00pm EDT on ESPN3.

Neither Christina Gibbons nor 2015 Duke verbal commit Taylor Racioppi saw the field in the US' 2-0 loss to Germany.

Rebecca Quinn played the full 90 minutes in Canada's 1-0 loss to Ghana.

Both teams face must-win games on Friday. The US plays Brazil at 10:00 EDT in Edmonton, while Canada plays Finland at 8:00 EDT in Toronto.

Much mo' betta for Duke on day two of play in Groups A and B.

Rebecca Quinn played the full 90 for Canada again, but got a result this time. Canada erased a two-goal halftime deficit to beat Finland,3-2.

For the USA, Christina Gibbons got the start at left back (Duke tradition), went all the way, and made a critical contribution, taking a goal-bound Brazilian header off the line in the 16th minute. Taylor Racioppi came on in the 37th minute and played well, despite failing to bury a gift-wrapped opportunity early in the second half. The USA won, 1-0, on an 82nd-minute goal by the team's only pro player, Lindsay Horan of Paris Saint-Germain.

The USA currently sits second in the group of death, behind Germany (stop me if you've heard this before). They advance to the quarters, and might win the group, with a win over China on Tuesday. They also advance with a draw, if Germany beats or draws with Brazil. A loss and they're toast.

USA advances to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over China. Another solid 90-minute shift for Christina Gibbons. Taylor Racioppi did not play.

The USA finishes second in Group B, and will play the winner of Group A (which will be North Korea unless they lose to Canada by at least three goals, or unless they lose to Canada by one or two and Ghana beats Finland by at least six).

Canada and North Korea are just underway.
