Wordles and Waffles and Connections, oh my!

Almost fell into the trap by guessing an obvious (but incorrect) connection too quickly.

Connections
Puzzle #541
πŸŸͺ🟩🟦🟨

First, I fell into the trap.

Was it a trap, though? I thought the puzzle was pretty upfront about those four, putting them in 2x2 formation. It's like when the top row spells out a familiar phrase, like RUBBER, BABY, BUGGY, BUMPERS or TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY. The puzzle maker is showing off, and it's up to you to figure out how those words separate.

...in case anyone is wondering. One AI is really good at the game. One is really bad and one kinda ok.

I tried it on three different AI models.

One sucked and failed completely.
One did moderately ok but was unable to match more than three in the last three categories.
One solved the puzzle without any problems.

I did the sports on my own, which is a surprise since I usually fail at the sports ones. Not enough broad knowledge, too focuses on college basketball.

I went back and gave the best AI a shot at it. It couldn't figure out all four for purple. It correctly identified the category, but couldn't get all the items. Which of course threw off green and blew as well.

Haha....for the computer geeks out there!

Agreed. In this case, I knew it was just too darn obvious, but I was almost too darn lazy. Fortunately I got a burst of energy just before I entered the β€œtoo obvious” answer, and tried to identify the other connections first.

Only two possibilities after first guess. I went with the less obvious (β€œand that has made all the difference”).

Hahah…today I had no clue about green. I am definitely an β€œinside the box” thinker.

Nice job getting purple in Connections. Even after seeing the answer I don't understand it. Those words are not what they claim in my vocabulary. Are there British idioms in there?

One ot them, yes. The other three are, or at least were, pretty common in the States (one might be obsolete by now, I don't know).
