WNBA: The 2024 Regular Season

Team WNBA stomped Team USA. Clark had a lousy shooting night (4 points, 0 - lots from 3) but had 10 assists.

I'm pretty confident that team WNBA is the only team that can beat Team USA.

Oh yeah, the WNBA season. It resumes Thursday night (schedule) after a long Olympic break.

Sportico talks numbers:

According to a report released Wednesday by the Fever, the team is tops in the league in terms of social media engagement, video views, followers gained and total followers. Between April 15 and July 19, it even beat all other teams across the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB in team-produced video consumption with 800 million views, the Fever said. Only MLS’ Inter Miami performed better among U.S. teams.
Each of Clark’s remaining 14 games in the 2024 regular season are scheduled to be broadcast on national TV, starting with a rematch Friday against Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury at 7:30 p.m. ET on Ion. On Sunday, the Fever play the Seattle Storm at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

A $5,000 Rookie of the Year bonus?!?!

She should get like a $10 million Changed the Finances of the Entire League bonus... and even that would not come close to revealing her full economic impact.

I recall years ago someone saying that every player on the PGA Tour should give 10% of their winnings to Tiger Woods to thank him for doubling purses. I'd argue the same can be said of Caitlin Clark.

I definitely agree with that. I'm going to the Fever game tonight. The gift shop is like a shrine to Clark. The Pacer's stuff has been pushed up onto the mezzanine of the gift shop.
I'd love to see a photograph of what the Fever's gift shop looked like two years ago compared to what it is today.

Clark broke the rookie assist record last night, could potentially break the all time assist record this season, too.
Her numbers since the inappropriate Olympic Team snub have been fantastic. Her team is winning more as well as a result of her play and her teammates adjusting to playing with her (she has the ball in her hands a lot). It's been fun to watch. I like fast paced hoops and the Fever like to push the ball and play fast (Fever pitch dare I say).

Another side effect the Clarks popularity....getting to know more about some fantastic players. Jewel Lloyd was fantastic in that Seattle/Indiana game the other night. She made some really difficult shots look routine. Looking forward to watching her play again soon.

Clark's positive numbers just keep getting more positive, but she's still turning it over so often. Wonder when that'll change.

I'm wondering if Chelsea Gray isn't really all the way back from her injury. I saw a bit of the Aces' game against Minnesota, and she just didn't seem like herself. Her numbers are way down this year, and she struggled against France.

Elizabeth Williams is out for the season, and Lexie Brown has been out for quite a while. Just an unlucky season.

When is the WNBA gonna do something about Chennedy Carter? This was last night:

This is a month ago:

Her cheap shot on Caitlin Clark 2 months ago now seems quaint:

She may be the dirtiest player in all of basketball.

Clark had already clinched ROY before tonight to me but this performance sealed it. Now Reese on the other hand.
Both teams benched their starters after Clark let the Fever to a huge 4th quarter lead in this blowout. Well all the starters except Reese who was the only starter still in game, shooting and shooting until she got her double/double. I saw a social media post praising her double/double count and all I could think about was how cheap that was. I will give Reese credit, she is very tall and has very long arms and it makes her a great rebounder. She's basically a 1 trick pony at this point but it's a good trick. Well 2 tricks, she's done a good job of attaching herself to Clark to make herself famous.

I'm no Reese fan, but to be fair to her....she did beat Clark and win an NCAAT at LSU. Honestly, the WNBA needs a famous rivalry to draw casual fans. I hope she's ok with being the villian. Something tells me she'll be great at playing the villain.

After starting the season 1-8, Clark's Fever are above .500 (17-16) for the first time in a WNBA record 189 games over 5 years. Despite Reese's stat-stuffing, the ROY voting should be unanimous.

To be fair to Clark, she dropped 30 in that national championship game and then dropped 41 on them in the elite 8 this year to get the W. She outplayed Angel Reese by a mile in both games, IMO.

Clark's current play is good enough to get her MVP votes ROY is in the bag.

I noticed that. Caitlin is basically Steph Curry with the passing ability of John Stockton while Reese is basically Joakim Noah. I don't know how the voting goes but Reese shouldn't have any 1st pace votes. I am very curious how it plays out and the media's reaction.

Please let her not have any of Stockton’s off the court qualities.
