Winter Storm '26 Roll Call

Officially 10.3” at PTI (Greensboro) airport. I’ll measure our total later today, but it will be close to the airport measurement. Lexington NC had 16”, and that’s only ~25 miles south of Greensboro.

We got caught in a dry pocket of incoming dry air not as much snow here.it happens with the rain aswell

The most I could measure in my driveway was 6 1/2". Not disappointed, but surprised.

A neighbor in the cul-de-sac has a snow blower. I hadn't seen one of those up close since I was 16, living in Great Neck, LI, NY. My next door neighbor had one. I have no intention of borrowing it!

Got about three inches 2.5 miles on the Durham side of RDU. Much easier shoveling than last week’s heavy slush/sleet/ice.

We are North of town in Durham County. I think we had 3 or 4 inches. Supposed to make it to 40 degrees tomorrow, so hopefully most of it will melt. They still don’t plough out here, so without snow tires or 4 wheel drive we just have to wait. Good time to be retired.

We’re getting a mix of snow and ice, but everything still looks calm for now and the power is holding. Stay warm and safe, everyone.

I'm just waiting for the snow to melt. Per the groundhog, 6 more weeks to go. I think NC is probably only 3 as winter ends around Presidents' Day.

It's been tough making dent (literally) in the "snowcrete" here in northern Virginia even though it's been over a week since the snow/sleet storm. I've seen neighbors using pick axes, hammers, and pitchforks trying to clear driveways and sidewalks. Friday I saw a guy using a chainsaw to clear the crud surrounding his car on the street.

Almost every year, by the end of February, our bradford pear trees at our office are blooming. They should be going from bud to blossom in about three short weeks. It's one of my most favorite welcome signs of springs. (Doesn't smell so good, however.)

Photo taken Feb 28th, 2017, as we were renovating the church we bought and turning it into our offices.

It's up to 41 here in TN and it feels like a heat wave. My heat pumps are actually cycling off/on on their own, without me nudging the thermostats.

We've had our first two days with temperatures above freezing in about 10-11 days, one of the longest three such streaks in DC history. My back yard is still covered in icy snowcrete, but I have managed to chip away at the ice near our car, which we park in front of the house. Side roads are still a mess, but improving, slightly.

Capital Weather Gang (a local weather team) says it may be March before all of the snowcrete is gone.

We're finally thawing out today with mid 40s, but lots of roads are still bleah. Tomorrow is even warmer, with welcome rain, but that rain is expected to turn to snow/sleet overnight with lows in the 20s. We should be back to normal by the weekend.
Yesterday I went to our office to check on things, but couldn't get in. Not because of the 12" in the parking lot, but because the snow plow had created a mountain in front of both driveways. We spent about 30 minutes shoveling those out of the way.
Here's our front sign, my wife's name is covered up on the bottom.
