Welcome to the NBA, Cedric Coward!

When you combine these shooting splits with his wingspan and 38 inch vertical, he sure looks like a unicorn prospect. It would have been great fun seeing him in a Duke uniform for a season.
The Coward saga is a real throwback to the pre-one and done era, sweating out the NBA decision of a prospect that may or may not ever make it to campus. It's too bad the board archives don't go that far back, I be we could see similar angst around Shaun Livingston.

If he comes to Duke, great! I’ll root for him. If he doesn’t, so be it. Duke will still be great with the players who want to be here. And I’ll never give him (Coward) a second thought.
Impossible. I just gave Carrick Felix a 2nd thought 2 days ago. Someone on this board is going to ask "hey, who was that kid that was going to transfer to Duke for Scheyer but ended up going in the NBA draft" to which someone else will reply "Cedric Coward, the kid from Washington St". And if you read that post, you'll go..."oh yeah, him"
2nd thought.

Jon Givony weighs in -- Cedric is "increasingly unlikely" to set foot on campus in Durham. Let's hope everyone who thinks Jon has a great backup plan just waiting for him to hit "go" on, is correct. Here's the link:

Seems like Sarr is the backup plan. So we'll be really talented but really young again. At this pace, a substantially younger team than this year.

If they don't get Sarr, then it probably is a situation where they hope they can land one of Luis, Claude, or Williams.

Luis is looking like he's staying in the draft.

I don't think next year's team will play young. Five returnees including both our centers. The most mature freshman in the country in Cam Boozer. And in Sarr, potentially a 19 year old who has already been playing against Europe's best players for 3 years.

We will be on the younger end but shouldn't be physically overmatched by any teams.

Would be pretty interesting if Duke had no transfers in the rotation. Likely the only men's CBB team without a transfer in the rotation.

I assume you mean incoming transfers, as Maliq Brown will be a 2025-26 rotation player who did not begin his career at Duke.

And even then, Marquette would also be on that list. No incoming transfers at all, not even outside of the rotation. From what I can tell, no past transfers either; everyone on both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 squads came to Marquette out of high school.

Shaka Smart is like the Dabo Swinney of men's basketball coaches, without bragging about it.

I get a little Neo/Matrix thing from his shot. Pretty cool.
Didn’t realize he can play- the one.

Fortunately for Shaka, he only shares that one tendency with Dabo. Whew, what a crooked Bible salesman Dabo is.

We will know on the 28th. After that, the backup plans will be explored if needed.
No way Jon is waiting til the 28th. He won't do a repeat of Keels. Back-up plan already moving. Sarr in early next week. Commitment quite likely. Three Crystal Balls already in on Friday for Sarr to Duke. Once Sarr on board, Duke will have ended its relationship with Coward.

Does this mean that if Sarr commits, then Duke tells Coward "thanks but no thanks"? What if Coward has a change of heart and wants to go back to Duke instead of the NBA draft? Is he "s**t outta luck"?

There are now 15 scholarships if I understand the new rules

Yes, that’s what I meant. Amazing about Marquette.

Front page article links Athlon article that says Sarr is coming for a visit early next week and if the visit goes well, he will commit to Duke.
