Way too early 26-27 roster speculation

Love Pat and Foster but I think it's time for both of them to move on and here are my reasons why. I think Duke is going to give Foster the Roach treatment, find him a spot where he can finish out his career. I could see him going back out west to USC or UCLA. Foster is a career 63% FT shooter and you can't have a starting guard on your team shooting that bad from the line if you expect to cut down the nets. For example Cadeau was 70% this year, Solo Ball was 85%, Sharp for Houston last year was 90% and Cryer was 89%, Walter Clayton Jr was 87%, you need to have your starting guards shoot 80% or better from the line if you want success in March. Now on to Pat, I love Pat but he would be taking a huge risk and so would Duke if he ends up getting injured again. I'd take a healthy Pat all day, but what happens if Pat comes back and he gets injured is missing time or the tournament next year Duke will end up screwing themselves. They need to go get either Bidungo or the Center from ASU.
Foster is a glue guy who we need back, even with his atrocious foul shooting. Bidunga I don’t think will come here, even if he stays in college.

Hmmm...

I want every fortune cookie manufacturer on the phone stat!

Not sure it works that way - if we are allocating X dollars (significant amount) to Blackwell that we could have allocated to Foster, it means we are recruiting over him. Let's not put lipstick on this one.
Let's not put lipstick on an imaginary budget? Is there even one person here who knows whether or not Blackwell's recruitment will substantially affect our offer to Caleb Foster?

I do feel I need to ask if you believe that there are other factors that contribute to a player’s offensive talent. Say…passing ability, rebounding, setting screens. Would you agree with that? It seems you only care about points, but Pat had the second highest ORtg on the team this year behind only the consensus NPOY. Curious if that reaches the standard of “good on offense.” Or sorry, to be more precise, to meet the standard of “not bad on offense.”
So if he comes back, w/o Cam dominating the inside on O, this 6’11” 250 lb guy is going to avg 20/game? His dribbling/ball handling and footwork are avg at best. I repeat he can get a lot better but he needs lots of minutes in competition to do so. I want him to come back for another year. Pointing out his weaknesses doesn’t mean I don’t value what he can bring to the table. Setting screens? All big guys do it and Pat was certainly not a standout. Passing from the high post to guys who are running free to the rim is something posters on this board rave about, but is expected and should be accomplished. Those plays are made by the scorer who gets free and the guy who sets the pick freeing him up. Are you saying nobody else in the country makes those passes?

That why the qualifier was spend all of their eligibility, without it you can add Goldwire and Roach.
Hopefully we can add Caleb to the list.

Yeah I got that, just that it doesn't make sense due to their longer eligibility being an anomaly. 4 years is still 4 years. Although it's looking possible that 5 years will be the norm in the future.

My main concerns with Pat are his foot injuries and stamina. Pat struggled to even get back down court at times, and it didn't look like it was a lack of effort. We were blessed to have a terrific player like Maliq to back him up. Having Maliq allowed Pat to play hard for short bursts. If he returns I think we still need a good back up and it may be hard to get a really good big that won't get more than 20 minutes per game. If Pat is pretty much guaranteed to be drafted in the top 25 players, I think he's gone. The only way Isaiah returns is if Mom Evans makes him. Or if he's not going in the first round.

GoDuke!

So at the moment, we potentially have the following guys on the roster (highly subject to change):

PG: Boozer, Rippey
CG: Foster
SG: Evans
SF: Sarr, Howard
PF: Williams, Wilkins
C: Ngongba, Meyer, Iffy

The bolded guys could choose to stay or go to the draft (note: I excluded Cam, because we've not had a projected top-5 pick choose to return to college since Jay Williams did so 25 years ago). The italicized guys could stay or transfer.

That group, with the addition of a backup grad transfer big, would be a very good team. But we definitely need that backup big.

If Evans, Sarr, and/or Ngongba go pro, then Scheyer will need to replace them with somewhat of a like-for-like player. In other words, I'd expect Duke to land a starting SG if Evans leaves, a starting SF if Sarr leaves, and a starting C if Ngongba leaves. So for the purposes of discussion, I'm going to refer to those positions as Evans/Sarr/Ngongba, with the understanding that whomever goes will likely be replaced by a similar quality of player.

So that leaves the remaining four potential returnees. Iffy probably wouldn't be replaced if he transfers. Meyer would fill that role already. If Wilkins transfers, we would probably need another backup PF. If one of Boozer or Foster transfers, we probably don't need to add another guard. If BOTH of Boozer and Foster transfer, we'd need a starting-caliber guard.

I'm not terribly concerned about our ability to replace Evans and Sarr. There are going to be enough SG/SFs in the portal that we can get a star guard. Ngongba is a bit trickier a proposition, in that there are fewer elite big men to go around. That's the one I'm watching most closely at the moment.

Any news on Evan Bradds replacement?
Bradds contributed a lot to Duke’s success.
At least he had the courtesy to wait until the season was over. Unlike Jai Lucas who had to go because of the transfer portal date.
I don’t think U of Miami respects Duke Athletics at all.

Pat Ngongba might stay, but his excessive fouls are another issue that needs to be addressed. He has skills but need to be upgraded. I personally don’t see him being a first round draft pick
