I don't see his post as naive at all...None of us knows enough of what's in Evans' head to call it that, IMO.
That's exactly what makes it naive.

Right. And then he's in the G League, playing before hundreds of people. Why wouldn't he be better off staying at Duke?I think this take is a little naive. I am trying to state this in a respectful manner, that does not come off as a personal attack or anything, but I strongly disagree.
Yeah... and then he's gone. He's got something (shooting) that everyone wants. He is raw and had that upside/potential that is so intoxicating for front offices. This is the only off season he will have that untapped/unknown potential that could be an absolute goldmine. After one more year at Duke, he will be much more of a "known".
There could be someone out there in the late teens/early 20s picks that loves him and tells him they'll take him if he is available. It's rare for a guy to come back if they get that feedback.
I think we can be comfortable as to who will be on the roster sometime shortly after the first game.In college basketball no guarantee who will be on the team when the season starts
You failed miserably.I think this take is a little naive. I am trying to state this in a respectful manner, that does not come off as a personal attack or anything, but I strongly disagree.
Wonder to what extent this is because of Coward signing on and crowding out minutesAs the resident "Neither, it's empty." guy, I don't look at this as bad news for Duke. If Evans does leave, Jon will figure out a way to make this team even better.
I want him to return if that's his first choice. If he's set on getting to the NBA as fast as possible, then yeah he should follow his heart. Given the team we had this year, Evans was able to focus almost exclusively on his NBA-ready talent, 3P shooting. Next year a lot more will be asked of him. Maybe that excites him, maybe it freaks him out a bit.
If he’s a middle to late second round pick (as he’s currently mocked) then he withdraws from the draft and goes back to Duke. If they want him, they have to make the promise to convince him to stay in the draft. There is no trade down and pick him later if he’s not available to be drafted.I don't have a lot of insight on how these discussions go, but it seems unlikely to me that a team with a pick in the teens or twenties would make any sort of promise or commitment to take a player who, best as I can tell, is slotted to be picked no higher than the middle of the second round. Why not trade down and pick him later? Or wait to see if a top-10ish player falls into your lap?
Of course, anything is possible. NBA teams do all kinds of wild things on draft night.
June 15 is the deadline to withdraw from the draft, correct? So now we sweat till then?
Yeah, no doubt they would have been back. Totally different era.If memory serves, we've not had very many who tested the waters come back to school. So I'm pretty nervous about Cedric, but especially about Slim. Granted, this is the NIL era where it could be more lucrative to come back to Duke than fight for a roster spot or two-way contracts as a late second rounder. You have to wonder if guys like Cassius Stanley or Trevor Keels would have come back with NIL.
Keels was at Duke in the NIL era.Yeah, no doubt they would have been back. Totally different era.
Ha, good point. Although I think that era might have 2 phases....Keels was at Duke in the NIL era.
