The endless pain of the Carolina Panthers - Season 2024

What team would be foolish enough to trade for him? Snyder is not the owner of the Commanders, and they have a franchise QB (injured currently).
Supposedly the Panthers got calls the week he was benched. Whether anyone would offer anything of any significance, who knows, but there will be a landing spot for him if the Panthers decide to part ways.

I don’t think it’s time to put him back in just yet, but once we’re down to the last 4-5 games.. why not?

Interesting comments on here. Just because Andy Dalton had a rough game doesn’t mean Bryce Young is all of a sudden good.

Many pundits are claiming the Panthers should go back to Bryce Young to see what they have. Trust me, they know he stinks. They see it first hand every day in practice. He’s had 20 games to show us.

Cuz he has no future here and he isn’t an NFL quarterback. I wouldn’t play him anymore. I’d play the quarterback on the practice squad.

I mean, he was the top pick in the draft. Playing him will just be advertising what value he might have somewhere else, and will probably mean the same number of wins (not many) which will help with draft position. The practice QB (or whoever might be available) might accidentally fall into some wins.

I don't see a downside to putting him out there. This is a lost season.

The downside is if you’re trying to trade him, and he continues to play abysmally, then you’re tanking any trade value he may potentially have.

Statiscally, he’s one of the worst quarterbacks of all time. He doesn’t have any tools to display.

I understand this to a degree. Players get drafted on "potential" all the time. The idea that Young just needs the right situation might be alluring to a desperate team I suppose.

It may, but that will lessen as he continues to play bad.

And I realize you’re not arguing with me, but I don’t see the potential that Bryce has. He has below average arms below average size, and below average athleticism. He profiles more as a late round/undrafted prospect. It’s incredulous to me that he was drafted so high. And before any one says “well he won the heisman”, we’ve seen plenty of examples of players who won the Heisman but didn’t turn out to be great pros.

Maybe. I think if they were really trying to trade him, they would’ve done it already. I understand not wanting to sell low but his value isn’t going up sitting on the bench. If they’ve decided he’s not salvageable go ahead and Ol’ Yeller him. If not, you gotta run him back out there at some point. Might as well do it in games that don’t matter.

I'm not disagreeing at all. I have no skin in the game. I feel bad for Panthers fans.

The Panthers made a wretched pick (especially in the context of CJ Stroud) but they weren't brainwashed into the selection. There must be *something* that Young brings to the table.

Right?

Maybe?

The issue is, they made two huge mistakes. First mistake was trading up. Which was really stupid. Especially given the quarterback class the next year.

Second mistake was choosing the wrong guy. Both mistakes were really bad, not sure which one was worse.

You say surely he brings something to the table. It was supposed to be his off schedule playmaking ability and his elite processing. We haven’t seen either of those things.

His play making ability is hampered by his below average athleticism. I think many people overestimated how this would translate to the NFL. At this point he’s getting chased down by NFL linemen with ease.

Secondly he’s supposed to be an elite processor. Well, that’s hard when you can’t see the field. He has poor mechanics as well. There are a couple videos that highlight how bad his mechanics are. Such as throwing off his tippy toes. It proves that he is too short.

All your analysis seems spot on. You've clearly watched more Panthers games than Inhave in the last two seasons - I'm not that masochistic.

As a Seahawks fan - he's a speck shorter than Russell Wilson. Who's height wasn't an issue until he lost his ability to scamper and make throws. It might be that 5'11 means you can be a Super Bowl winner and 5'10 means you're too small.

But I'd also hesitate to say he has no value. Our QB Geno Smith was given up on early in his career but stuck around the league and learned from very good QBs before being a starter again. As of this week, he's leading many NFL passing categories.

Now, that's a decade later, of course. But the transition from college to NFL is no joke. Geno used his bench time to improve his decision making. He very rarely makes the wrong play. Maybe Bryce can get back into the film room and study hard. I don't know if he has that sort of mentality - most don't.

Again, I don't disagree with most of what you are saying. But I don't see the benefit to just letting him rust on the bench when you're not winning more than 2 or 3 games.

I'll let the more knowledgeable Panthers fans take the topic from here. Just offering my perspective.

It's interesting...out of NC State, Philip Rivers was way low on the athleticism, questionable arm strength, had bad throwing mechanics, but could see the field at 6'5". The result, 8 Pro-Bowls. Rivers did get to ride the pine for two seasons behind Drew Brees.

Maybe throwing these rookies into the fire on teams bad enough to get the first pick isn't the best plan. Alternatively, there may be something to this height thing after all.

What kills me is seeing Baker Mayfield doing so well in Tampa, ugggh, if we could have gotten that kind of output in Carolina...
Baker has been great this season, but I believe he's in trouble now with Godwin out for the rest of the season with a dislocated ankle and Mike Evans out for probably 4 to 5 weeks with a hamstring injury. He's down to his 3rd wide receiver and 2 more that haven't produced so far.
