The "Daniel Jones deserves his own thread" thread

There is a mental calmness that is required that a lot of people don't have. Applies to the holder also. I was so pissed at my holder for panicking and running on an XP when we were playing club football at the cheats crappy astroturf practice field, that I took it out on the guy that ran towards me thinking he was going to block the kick.
It was often occurred to me that one of the least good positions to be in in sports is to be the kicker who misses a crucial kick at the end of the game, then has to get on the plane or bus with 80 huge sweaty, disappointed guys for the hours long ride home.
A year ago or so, maybe two, I sat on a plane next to a woman who lived in Pelino's dorm, and the day before he had missed a huge kick. Very very tough on the kid..

I still hope they take showers after a loss! ;)

Justin Reid, a safety for the Chiefs, has kicked extra points and handled kickoff duties when Butker was injured in 2022. Only 1 of 2 in the extra points and touch backs on the kickoffs.

Bet that guy wished it was Lil Wayne kicking that day!

I tore my left MCL on that crappy AstroTurf field. Some puny cornerback hit me on that knee (my left foot was planted firmly on the ground) after I'd gained about 10 yards. It was one of our spring games in 1975.

I know a guy who's son is a D1 punter. Out of high school he was a top five punter and kicker. Went to USC for a few years and didn't do all that great. Transferred to Ohio State and didn't play last year because the kickers ahead of him were seniors. Transferred again and is at ASU now. He's only punting and kickoffs now. His dad tells me that he's been told that his son is very likely to make an NFL roster as a punter and kickoff specialist but his ability to make field goals makes him a great emergency kicker (he also kicks a lot of the very long FG attempts).
I wonder if Ross Martin is still practicing his place kicking? He did for several years after graduation, hoping for his shot in the NFL.

We're friends on Facebook. I just messaged him and asked if he's still kicking?1726512143030.gif1726512143030.gif

NFL kickers face pressure that's about as harsh as it gets in sports. Unless you've established yourself as one of the top 15 or so kickers in the league with several years of experience, you're one or maybe two misses away from unemployment at all times.

And now the expectation is to be able to drill a field goal from 50+, because if you can't, the next guy can.

Giants tried hard to give it away the last few series, including a missed FG, but Singletary turns a "short" play into a long run and takes a seat at the one. It'll be a victory day for DJ and the Giants.

24/34, 2TD, 236 yards, 2 sacks

The Giants/Cowboys game is fascinating to me. As someone who doesn't care at all about either team, I hope the Giants win for Duke reasons. And I expect the whiplash for the people who were putting Jones on the firing squad to be almost equal to the whiplash of the people who had Dallas penciled in for the Super Bowl.

Hey I resemble that remark. Look my ability to evaluate NFL talent is sorely lacking. Even as an armchair quarterback my talents are better suited to searching for gummy bears dropped between the seat cushions by my Yorkie. But after 6 seasons the final draft of the book of Daniel is rounding into form. He's not going to make the HOF. He won't even make the Pro Bowl Game(s)? I'm just hoping that Daniel can go out on his own terms. At the end of the season let the story be about Daniel's resurgence to a competent QB who had the Giants in playoff contention, not about how the Giants season was doomed when they couldn't trade up to take Drake Maye in the draft.
