The "Daniel Jones deserves his own thread" thread

The Giants offensive line has been putrid for several years, so of course in the last draft they didn't take any offensive linemen.
The previous year they selected a center (first round I think) who notoriously could not snap the ball higher than about six inches off the ground.
The Giants have drafted offensive lineman in recent years with little success. So this off-season they actually focused a lot on linemen in free agency. To soon to tell if they picked the right guys but it is not fair to accuse them of ignoring the problem.

fair enough, but for whatever reason they have been utterly incompetent in improving the OL. Survive and get out, Daniel!
(and there is NO doubt that the first round center they picked was just a bust).

I guess Barkley got out of town because of that lousy OL.

GoDuke!
Also because I don't think they could afford to pay what they paid Jones AND pay Barkley what he's worth.

If Jones had been a second-round pick who impressed as a relatively unheralded QB who won the job from Eli Manning and had glimpses of good play, the pressure on him would be so much less. But they used a very high draft pick on him, and now they've sunk a lot of their salary cap into him, so the knives are going to be out.

Playing-wise, his natural career arc at this point would be to settle in as a backup like Andy Dalton, Mitch Trubisky, Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garoppolo or Carson Wentz. But I'd have to think the cap hit would make it impossible for the Giants to move him.

they only owe him for one more year...he's likely gone after this season. I have no strong opinions on this, but wonder how well he could do for a more competent team....you just can't assess him with the horrific OL he has.

I'm not really a football guy, so I'm wondering why that's his "natural" career arc? It seems to me that forecloses a lot, especially for a guy who hasn't even sniffed another franchise.

if he's lucky and well represented his agent might find a team which at least gives me a chance to compete for a starting position.
If not, he can settle into the backup role, but frankly with $80 million of guaranteed money in his pocket (so after taxes, still several dozen million bucks) he can do what he wants. Not sure he'd want to be backup....most of them make in the $2-5 million range...

Was this posted before or after the end of the game?

Geezum Pete. 5 sacks, 2 interceptions, no TDs. Tell me again why DJ should have taken less money?
The rationale was Daniel was a top 12ish talent who could be even better with a better line and talented skill players, and he'd make up the difference with endorsements and/or future contracts.

Now it's pretty clear he's not an NFL-quality starter and he was very fortunate the Giants gave him that contract.

the only thing that's really clear to me is the Giants are a trash organization. you cant succeed with the lack of team around you as an nfl qb.
