The Brotherhood Podcast (hosted by CFos)!

I think Jon would like to play faster, but a lack of depth limited his options for his prior two teams. On paper, this team should be deeper.

Wow, a Hornets episode of the Brotherhood Podcast. Sounds incongruous to have three Duke players in Chapel Hill West Charlotte, but times are changing. Caleb Foster has separate interviews with Seth Curry, Harry Giles, and Mark Williams.

No Mason Plumlee or Vernon Carey?

It's an episode of current Charlotte players, not former ones.

As you may know, the Hornets are conducting their training camp on Duke's campus this week, and Seth Curry, Harry Giles, and Mark Williams are on the roster (though Williams has a minor injury from practice last week and is sitting out the preseason as a precaution).

Mason Plumlee is with the Phoenix Suns now and attending their training camp (with Grayson Allen and Tyus Jones). Vernon Carey Jr played overseas in Turkey last season, and suffered an significant injury that will keep him sidelined for at least some of the 2024-2025 season.

Not very surprising that the Hornets are making better personnel choices now that they have new ownership.

Man, Harry was great. Not taking anything away from Seth or Mark, but I thought Harry really stole the show. Maybe it’s all the adversity he’s had to overcome, but he really comes across as wise well beyond his years. Hoping he can stick with Charlotte.

Yeah, Harry was great. It was such an interesting contrast between the 3 players. Curry the veteran at the end of the road living in the rare air of being part of a basketball royal family; Giles the former Golden Boy who has been humbled by injury and much more world wise and realistic at 26; Williams the thoughtful young potential second/third tier star who, despite his current injury, has his whole career in front of him, etc. The Harry/Caleb Oak Hill love fest was a lot of fun to listen to.

There is some really interesting information shared about the intensity of practice, what drills are hard and how it is structured. Also, unless they were just pumping him up, both guys says that CFos is the toughest guy to guard during practice.

Assuming that these episodes will cease once games begin, I am savoring each one.

This was a really good pod, though it sounded like someone left the water running in the bathroom. How is Duke Social Media not all over Khaman and Kon's excellent road trip to Wisconsin?

Wow, that was a great one. CFos keeps improving. Coach Scheyer is a great interview. The most interesting thing to me was Scheyer's thought on changes needed in college basketball.

Really good episode, Coach was loose. They talked a lot about the NBA and Jon said that he has particular affinity for guys like KD and Steph because they were in his high school class. We know Coach is young, but it is just a reminder of how young, and how the destiny of a Joe Ingles finger to the eye gave him the chance to succeed K. Do I think he'd trade being the Duke HC to have gotten to take his shot in the NBA as a player...yes I do. When we think about the younger generation of head coaches that succeeded K's generation, we talk about guys like Dan Hurley, Nate Oats, Tony Bennett, Scott Drew...these guys are 15-20 years older than Jon and have years more head coaching experience. Jon's already good, and is only going to age like a fine wine as long as the insanity of the current environment gets re-organized into something with more predictable roster construction and conference affiliation.

Anyway, there isn't a ton of new stuff here, but they are stressing defense, and he thinks the strength of the team is versatility. I was also happy to hear him plug Jabari as a recruit who was really important to Duke as it entered the final era of K's reign.
