The Brotherhood Podcast (hosted by CFos)!

C Fos asked who is the most competitive member of the Duke team.
His answer. - KON! 😍
At this point its clear the team has gotten wind of the Kon hype... Caleb even tried to get Kon to engage with it on his ep, to which he expertly demurred. Jason and Donald also brought it up with Coach Lucas. At this point if the K2 hype is not real it's either a fantastically organized disinformation program from the team or, far more likely, something that is a real pattern in summer practice. We all know that doesn't always translate into ACC action, but it's still a better sign than not hearing good things ;)

Maluach is so well-spoken, even though English is not his first language. Love hearing his perspective and his unique background. Foster has also gotten so good as an interviewer - he acknowledges and responds to the answers before moving on to the next question, and if the interviewee is struggling to answer a question then he helps prompt them in a really seamless way. I was honestly a little surprised when he took over for Ryan given that we've heard he's a really quiet guy, but he's been awesome.

Favorite line from Khaman:

"If I have 13 boards and 6 blocks but have a bad game offensively, I can still have a good game". That's the spirit, big fella!

Ok, so Kon has been tagged most surprising, most impressive and now most competitive. Can't wait to see this kid play. 🤓

My only complaint about the most recent episode is that CFos said Luol played at Duke “a long time ago”. Nah - that was yesterday, right? Can’t be making me feel old like that!!
Oh they've made me feel old in every episode! Every time CFos asks them who their favorite Duke player is or what was their earliest Duke memory, nine times out of 10 the answer has been a player or game from the last 10 years or less. It makes sense given he's interviewing the freshmen but it doesn't help me feel young! LOL!

Especially given Cooper’s reputed competitive streak. I just cannot wait for this season!
I agree with others who have said Cooper's name is likely not coming up because the expectation is already there that he's the #1 player in CBB. But it really is something else how every single teammate has highlighted Kon on a roster full of great players...

Also, Coach Jai Lucas said that Kon showed up on campus “ready”… and that the work he put in before coming to campus was apparent (DBR podcast #642)

As noted in the DJ Steward thread, he does not hesitate in acknowledging that he made a mistake by leaving too early. After hearing him talk about his hard work and appreciation of getting a second opportunity, I am really rooting for him. It's also nice to see that he is still coming back to Duke, even though his experience at Covid was so unusual. He talked about the bond with his teammates. No mention of Jalen Johnson ... I was surprised to hear him list SpongeBob as his all-time favorite TV show!

Bolden also came across very well. I enjoyed hearing him talk about connecting with non-sports-playing fellow students at Duke and enjoying the peace of the Gardens. He also gave the edge to the 2017 team over 2019 as the best Duke team during his time. That team had probably the most injuries I remember any Duke team having, but the depth truly was amazing.

Interesting to hear that Bolden likes playing in FIBA. “They call a lot of fouls in the NBA. They call a lot of fouls in America, period.”

This is the first time I have ever heard a player mention the Gardens and, as it was probably my favorite place on campus, it makes me like Ques even more.

While I don't have any inside info on either player, Ques' journey reminds me a bit of Shav's. While Shav was much more hyped coming out of high school, they both struck me as gentle giant types who were quiet and country more than city types. After leaving Duke, while having a few NBA stints, Shav spent most of his career globe trotting as a hoop ex-pat and, per his IG feed, seems to have become a citizen of the world. Ques is on that same path. While I am sure he wants to be in the NBA, he became an Indonesian citizen so he could play for their national team and spends lots of time in Bali and really wants to vacation in the Maldives. If you asked him where he wanted to vacation when he was at Duke, I doubt that would have been his answer. Basketball takes these guys on such a journey if they are open to it.

I also thought it was telling that both guys basically said, in hindsight, they wish they had been confident enough to listen to their own hearts and do what they really wanted to do instead of being influenced by others. That is a VERY tall order for an 18-20 year old, but I am glad they are there sharing that info with the current players.

Duke Pro Weekend is a great idea...combined with the K Academy, it is a way to keep the Brotherhood from being more than a brand, and I really like how this one attracted a lot of recent guys whose NBA dreams failed to launch or struggled out of the gate.

I know the the Podcast is heavily edited, but still, I like the way that Caleb is growing into the role. He is much smoother and self assured.

I really enjoyed hearing two players from different teams, who have not become NBA players (yet), share their experiences both at Duke and afterward. They, like so many other athletes, make me proud of what Duke athletics is doing.
