The Brotherhood Podcast (hosted by CFos)!

Azz, why are you raining buckets on the Kon parade? You need to close up your umbrella and enjoy the sunshine!
To the contrary. Azz has moved from "Kon may be a productive player... as a senior" to "while it's highly unlikely, Kon could have an impact as a freshman" [my words, not his]. Pretty soon we're going to talk him back down lest he overwhelm us with his enthusiasm.

Haha. He is moving in our direction. I can sense it too. I think he admitted it was Cooper's comment that Kon was more athletic than he expected that first got his attention.

Azz, this is all just offseason clowning around. Let's agree that all this competition for minutes is nothing but good news for the season.

I rib you and Phae on occasion (cough often cough), so I should be able to take it.

I haven't answered the McCain question because I can't. Knowing how he performed against D1 competition colors my perspective.

I still think Kon will have a tough time guarding on the perimeter. What I am warming to is Kon at the 4. Limited lateral quickness is less of an issue at the 4. If Kon is really 6-7, a solid 217, and can have a defensive rebounding rate north of 18%, he can split time with Maliq at the 4. I know you think Cooper can play the 4 but he shouldn't. Duke has had one, maybe two players in the past two decades who played the 4 at 205 lbs. Tatum in 2017 was the most recent and he ended up there because Giles and Obi were injured and Jeter didn't improve as a sophomore. Prior to that maybe McClure in 2007 (not a team Duke should try to emulate) Grant was 225 as a freshman according to goduke.com.

It is interesting that you finally mention the competition. I thought you had a stonecutter at Casa de SkyB etching Kon's name in marble as a starter. I love the concept of competition for minutes, but I worry a bit about the reality. Multiple high quality players will struggle to get off the bench. In this day and age, I'm not entirely certain that is a good thing.

Haha. This is good stuff.

I certainly don't have Kon etched in as my 5th starter! I'd put both him and Gillis at 40% as our 5th starter and give the other 20% to Sion and Maliq. That's just me...

I don't see all the big banging ACC 4s that you do. UNC: Withers or Tyson or Powell. All easy covers for Cooper. Like I've said, I think if Jon could design a stretch 4 in the lab it would be Cooper Flagg. And by playing the 4, he'll typically be closer to the lane to give help D and swat shots. But we can't call him a stretch 4 because of his mom, so this year he'd play Big Wing.

Was Grant truly 225 as a freshman? I would have guessed 212...

Maybe Cooper will weigh in at 210 in November. I saw him D'ing up LeBron last month. I think he's the last guy on the team we have to worry about.

In the most recent DBR Round-up pod, Jason and Donald interview Coach Lucas and specifically ask him about the Kon hype. He didn't deflate it at all, and said that the staff has been impressed by how he got himself into top physical condition before he showed up.

Finally, a Brotherhood pod where Triple Kneuppel is not named as the most impressive player.

CFos’ reaction to K2’s friend’s activity at the Wisconsin State Fair made me crack up…it’s subtle but highly entertaining.

Seems like another great kid, loves ball, loves his family, loves his home state, loves getting buckets!!!

Lots of really good stuff here. Great favorite quote. Highly recommend.

Kon and CFos mention that Darren Harris is returning to practice this week. Eager to hear how he does as he integrates back with the team. Kon talks about how effortless and smooth Darren's shot is. Me likey.

I missed it… but where did Darren Harris go?

This interview was done a month ago I think. Foster asked him about who was gonna win Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Olympics for basketball. He also mentioned having a week left of school and I remember seeing a week ago the Flaggs running a boys basketball camp back in Maine.

Based on the Olympic basketball discussion, it sounded as though it was recorded at least two weeks ago, so Darren has probably been back for a bit.

I was an ep behind so listening to both the Slim and K2 eps today… man was I impressed listening to young Mr. Evans! The way he described getting confidence by being willing to fail and ignoring the silliness of recruiting rankings both spoke to wisdom well beyond his years.

Love the talk about Wi state fair. From Wi originally and we used to take our Durocs ( breed of pigs ) to the fair to show. Was always a great time, sleeping in the hog barn on cots for w week. Good memories.
I can infer from the interview that getting away from the butterburgers, cheese curds and cement mixers at Culvers helped K2 get into better shape.

Cooper Flagg is the most ballyhooed collegiate hoopster in the country and yet, I don't remember him ever getting the slightest shout out on the podcast (except when he was featured). Did I miss something?

I think it's just because CFos keeps asking who has been the most surprising player so far. As you said, everyone has been talking about Cooper as a generational talent so there's no mystery there! But I know in a lot of the recent podcast episodes, the players talk about what a load this team is going to be and much of that goes to having Cooper on the team.
