The best Cooper Flagg breakdown you will see all month!

Especially enjoyed the part about his quick leaping ability. Antawn Jamison and Marvin Bagley and Joe Smith (MD) all come to mind but interesting that none of those guys really maximized that ability anything like Cooper on the defensive end....

Great post, thanks for sharing.

I have been a big fan of J Kyle Mann's ever since he joined The Ringer. Not only is he really smart, but he has a great voice and style.

He's a Kentucky fan through and through. He's a weekly guest on Tar Heel devotee, Tate Frazier's, One Shining Podcast, a show also on the Ringer Network. I have to credit both Frazier and Mann, even though they both dislike Duke because of their native fandom, they give credit where credit is due as this video demonstrates. Most of their Duke skewers are aimed at K, and he is a well fortified target. But, they both really love, and understand, college basketball and how it is different and special when compared to the NBA.

As I watch the Duke Men's Basketball media team's video releases, I feel like they are deliberately slow rolling the Cooper hype as much as possible. He's rarely the featured guy, the other guys don't talk about him a lot in their Brotherhood podcast interviews, etc. I feel like there are two reasons. One, there is already so much hype that they don't want to contribute to it. Two, they know he's going to be freaking awesome and want to try and talk about everyone but him and then laugh when he inevitably proves to be a complete menace from Game 1. I am trying to manifest this theory into existence.

I worry that Cooper's offense won't really stand out with all of Duke's weapons and people will criticize him for that.

His defense is supposed to be his strength, after all.

I thought that until I saw him hit jumpers over Anthony Davis and bring up the ball against Jrue Holiday's full-court pressure. Now I question who on our roster has more offensive capabilities than Cooper, or even close.

We have plenty of players who could be menacing offensive weapons this year, but no one (other than Flagg) who has yet convincingly shown they can efficiently score even 12-14 ppg in the ACC.

Yet he said in the video Cooper might not even lead Duke in scoring. I wonder who he thinks might challenge him...

I can merge this into the general Cooper Flagg thread in a bit but I wanted it to stand on its own for now so as many folks can see it as possible.

A simply stunning (and quite entertaining) video analysis of Cooper's game. The stuff about 6 minutes in about the way he jumps is really insightful.

That was cool! Thanks for sharing, I am so pumped up for this season!

Thanks for the video. Some things that jumped out to me: 1) first time I've seen Cooper not listed at 6'9" but at 6'8". Not that one-inch matters that much. 2) How easily he uses the left hand. 3) How he worked on his outside shooting, from set shot to jump shot. Not to give it away but compared to former Duke player ????. 4) As someone mentioned upthread, he's a quick leaper. From all I've read about Cooper, it seems he's more interested in winning than his own stats.

GoDuke!
