Thank you, Captain: Jeremy Roach transfers to Baylor

This one stings, but was probably decided alongside Tyrese and Caleb returning. As much as we could’ve dreamed, it was never realistic for all three of those guys to return for two starting spots.

Here’s hoping Jeremy gets some interesting feedback that keeps him in the draft, because seeing him in another uniform will hurt. That said, we survived it with Jordan Goldwire and survived it for Joey Baker… neither of those guys comes close to Jeremy, obviously, but this is the reality of the COVID year.

We should remember that this was already a bonus year of Jeremy… we operated under the assumption for most of 2022-23 that Jeremy was back for one more year before turning pro. Obviously that changed, and for the better. But I imagine Jon and the staff always assumed this was Jeremy’s last year.

Jeremy, you will go down in Duke lore as the bridge between K and Scheyer. No one else can say that. Go be great.

We had 4 guards last season. This year we only will have 2 (pending a likely portal addition ?). I could have seen him get major minutes.

Jeremy Roach ends his Duke career with 1,469 points, good for 32nd on Duke’s All-Time scoring list. Nestled nicely between Carlos Boozer (31st) and Chris Carrawell (33rd).

A fine, four-year career. Thanks for the memories, Jeremy.

Best of luck, Jeremy. Thank you for staying as long as you did and giving it your all.

We will welcome you back any time, even as a competitor.

Had a hunch he wouldn’t be back. NIL at Duke probably isn’t lucrative. I would think Europe or maybe Arkansas with all that Tyson chicken funding

Maybe not right on target?

I hear NIL money at Duke is more than competitive.

It is time for our 6-5 future NBA players to start at guard and play 30+ mins per game. And, no, with all-over-the-court Cooper Flagg on the floor, we are not starting or even playing three guards. IMHO, of course -- where the H declared for the draft a long time ago.

It's sad to see a four year player go to another school. Hopefully he turns pro. If not, honestly, I'd rather have Roach stay and one of the other guards leave.

I will always remember Jeremy as The Closer. The last minute 3 to put away Syracuse in the ACC Tournament. The dagger 3 against Michigan State. The late game heroics against Texas Tech. The big last minute bucket against UNC, twice in one season. The big buckets down the stretch against Miami and UVA to give Jon his first ACC title. 14 points in the second half against Houston, including yet another late midrange dagger, to pull off the biggest win of the Scheyer Era.

The last player of the Coach K Era. The glue that held it together during the transition. Hanger of 3 banners. A Duke basketball hero. Thank you, Jeremy.

Yes, Roach is clearly the best of Roach, Proctor, Foster so we will miss him. We lost our best two guards.

This one stings. Idk if I can stomach seeing JRoach in another college uniform. I doubt he gets drafted too, so I’d imagine he transfers. All the love to Cap. Really wanted to see him win a natty at Duke. Absolutely loved watching Jeremy play for and represent Duke on the court. He will always be a Blue Devil.
