Summer Lax News and Notes 2024

More good news, per IL:
“Duke had one of the biggest single days of the commitment cycle, locking up No. 2 overall midfielder James Gillis as the first of four commitments announced on Monday.

In addition to Gillis, Duke landed 5-Star and No. 5 overall M Bennett Matthews (Bedford, N.H. / Tomahawks), plus [5-star and] No. 11 overall A Tedy Frisoli (St. Sebastian’s, Mass. / Laxachusetts).”
Frisoli’s not much of a surprise, as he’s the younger brother of recent grad Will Frisoli.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Balsamo the Younger chose Duke?

“70 is the new 55.”
Current juniors who are committing now will be graduating shortly when Coach is 76. He has 459 career wins. It would be great if he could get to 500. Which he would hopefully achieve well before these recruits are seniors, or we have bigger problems.

still a tad surprised no announcement on a new deal for Dano. I assume recruits are asking so I suspect all is good.

More good news from IL:
“The last remaining uncommitted 5-Star, Dylan Malone (La Salle, Pa. / Big 4 HHH) committed to Duke on Saturday. Not only does his commitment conclude the pursuit of 5-Star ’26s, but each of the top 34-ranked players have announced his college choice.

Duke is now up to 12 commitments in the class. That’s larger than any class they’ve taken in recent memory; the Blue Devils currently have nine ’25s committed, signed 10 ’24s, eight ’23s, 11 ’22s and 10 ’21s.

It’s now reasonable to expect that both Notre Dame and Duke have completed their classes, and given that there not enough highly ranked players remain uncommitted, it’s unlikely that either will be knocked off their current spot in IL’s Class Rankings. Notre Dame is No. 1 in both the overall rank and the secondary “Points Rank,” and the Blue Devils sit No. 2 in both, less than 10 points behind the Fighting Irish.”

So…for 2026 Duke has 4- 5 Star athletes, and 6-4 Star athletes.

So we’re destined to spend more May weekends in the oh-so-pleasant company of Mr. Corrigan. Lovely.
