Soccer, Fútbol, It's just Football

US Soccer’s Board of Directors is expected to formally approve Pochetinno today. The transition can’t happen soon enough.

Our 2024 performances are evidence that our problem is cultural, not just tactical. Following Saturday’s debacle, Tim Ream said “you can’t coach intensity.” It’s certainly true that effort and intensity are ultimately up to the players, but that starts with coaching and team culture. One of the hallmarks of Coach K’s teams were how consistently they channeled his intensity and focus.

I certainly hope Puchetinno has a tactical plan to get the most out of this group of players, but more than that I hope he creates a culture that values intensity, aggression, and purpose on the ball. I can’t take another year and a half of aimless possession marked by back-passes between the defensive midfield, CB’s and GK.

This, 100%. And Tim Ream was one of the many culprits.

It appeared to me that the subs and Lund were the only US players bringing energy to the game. (Not saying Lund is great, by any stretch, but he at least tries to attack when he gets the ball.)

Yeah, I had to look it up. It reminded me of COVID games when the leagues resumed.

Apparently, Belgium has done this at several locations with matches against the Israeli teams or teams from that area, even moving the games to neutral counties. It is reported as being for security reasons due to the current war in Gaza as opposed to a political statement, and I personally have no reason to doubt that.

I personally have every reason to doubt that. 'nuff said.

I have been watching a ton of women's college games on ESPN+. Was hoping Fubo would cover more, but ESPN+ seems to be the place to watch. Anyone else watch NCAA women's games? Reason I am watching is to gain more intel in the recruitment process, by the way.

I guess we all just took Pochettino as a done deal to not mark his official signing?

As horrible as the decision to keep Gregggggg was, the hiring of Mauricio and Emma Hayes is equally as great. Time to find out if the problem with the MNT was with the coaches or the players.

Remarkable game last night in the U-20 Women's World Cup. Germany took a 2-0 lead into extra time and looked to have it sealed away, but the US finally managed a goal at 90+8 and 90 seconds later managed to get the leveling goal. Both sides were pretty tired through extra time so they went to PKs and it was the Germans who struggled in PKs, not even getting all their kicks to lose 3-1

I watched most of the game live and turned it off in the 96th minute, thinking we were done! Insane! Went back and watched the rest this afternoon with my daughter. What a game!

That was one of the craziest comebacks I’ve ever seen in sports, right up there with gone in 60 seconds and the Reggie Miller game.

Look who’s at last nights Birmingham vs. Wrexham game. The Blues go on to beat Wrexham 3-1 to go top of the league 1 table. Look out premship!

How do you feel about Garry Cook‘s idea to this game played in the US. I can see the roof of the offices at Wembley blowing off after the FA heard that.

Well. I would not have minded and probably would have tried to get to the game somehow but Blues fans seemed to be against it from what I saw of some comments in forums. Overall the fans are extremely happy with the American owners.

Interesting that the U-20 women lost to North Korea in the semifinal... North Korea must have one heck of a development program. They dominated us in shot 18-7. Now that the world is catching up with the USA in terms of women's soccer, the youth programs can be sometimes be bellwethers for the full national teams.
