August 30, 2008 , a drizzly,overcast night. We were there (Father’61; Son ‘86 ).
Let the Cutcliffe Era Begin!

JMU and Duke players were conducting warmups. When what to our wondering eyes should appear?

TWO PARACHUTISTS AND A FOOTBALL

Plop Plop 50 yard line.Players and coaches scattered for safety.

No explanations were announced that night .Turns out the chutists were scheduled for Kenan-8 miles away.Because of a cloud cover ,the drop was cancelled. But then there was a break in the clouds and ,behold, a football stadium.

Oh yeah Duke 31,JMU 7

I was there too, we watched them drop in from our tailgate in the B5 lot.

When informed of the gaffe, UNC associate athletics director Rick Steinbacher called Duke to apologize.

"In about five years, maybe this will be funny,'' Steinbacher said, according to the newspaper. "Right now, I'm just glad no one was hurt."
Rick was wrong, it was instantly funny.

I call upon that emoji, smilie, or emoticon with the 2-letter flag that we lost in favor of the middle finger smilie. They knew exactly what they were doing. I was in the stadium.

That's what happens when you hire Duke grads to bring the ball into Kenan. They find a superior landing spot.
