Podcasts that talk about Duke Men's Basketball 2024-25

I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people can go to find recent episodes of podcasts that talk about Duke Men's Basketball.

Here's a big of a clearinghouse of recent episodes to get us started. Some of this might duplicate individual threads but, again, I think it would be helpful to have a comprehensive reference:

The Brotherhood podcast, hosted by Caleb Foster

Duke Basketball Roundup - hosted by our own Jason Evans and Donald Wine

Crazie Cast - Part of the Field of 68 Network
(this interview with Coach Scheyer is already available on Spotify, looks like it will be here soon)

Locked on Blue Devils
(again, looks like it will be available later today)

The Devil's Den, part of the 24/7 platform, also has a Duke Men's Basketball pod that is worth checking out but I can't find them on YouTube so check whichever podcast aggregator you use. They are definitely on Spotify.

Since I am isolating with Covid, I watched a bunch of these podcasts today. They weren't terrible, but I learn more about Duke basketball from this forum than I do with these podcasts, which basically seem like some hoops fans sitting around b-sing. Even the ones who have been affiliated with big sites (like Parrish, Norlander, and Goodman) don't really seem to know more than the good folks here.

I agree. I think it was the Jeff Goodman pod where they seemed to forget all about Maliq Brown. They were both super-bullish on Cooper but didn't seem to know a lot about the rest of the team.

And two podcasts mispronounced Sion while one said that Kon is 6’5”. They also analyzed Proctor’s 2023-24 season without mentioning his injuries.

This team is unique in terms of the level of unknown - much of it due to the incredible roster depth of newcomers - and the level of interest - much of it due to Cooper Flagg.

One of the podcasts which I thought did an OK job was already calling Isaiah Evans "a transfer", predicting he would leave after this season. Give me a break.

I agree that it's probably not fair to the kid or team to call him a transfer before he's ever played one minute at Duke. However, if he doesn't play much this season, he will probably be like many players who transfer because they didn't get to play much. That's the nature of the college game these days.

GoDuke!

Thanks for the shoutout! Of course, Jason and I work hard on the DBR pod and hopefully everyone enjoys it. As we get into basketball season, we'll be doing more and more episodes (sometimes we're doing 4-5 in a week depending on the schedule!) and we highly encourage all Duke fans to like, subscribe, and tell their friends!

I'll also throw in a plug for the Locked On Blue Devils Podcast, led every weekday by friend of the DBR Pod JJ Jackson. He's available on all podcast services as well as YouTube.

I enjoy the Locked On podcast and have especially enjoyed the times that Jason and Donald have appeared as guests. It was like that time the Avengers crossed over into an X-Men comic book when I was 9 or 10. All of my favorite people in one place :)

The Sleepers react to the Jon Rothstein's review of what he saw at Duke practice
Not once did these guys consider what JE pointed out right away. Maybe those 5 were on the white team together because we only have two PGs and Scheyer needed Foster to be the PG for the blue team.

The breathless hype does seem to be building for this team. And it's deserved. By mid season we might be seeing pods like, "Cooper seen wearing red shoes around campus. What does it mean?"

I don't know what anyone else does, but I put a metric ton of research and preparation into every damn episode of the DBR podcast. I take pages of notes and really think about what I am going to say. The whole thing is still supposed to come off as a casual conversation between passionate Duke fans, but Donald and I really try for to be at least a little bit smart and prepared.

That said, I screw up a ton of the time - like my inability to properly pronounce the names of numerous football players -- and consider it a miracle that anyone listens to what we have to say (let alone tens of thousands of people every month).

I don't know how one could just look at the Rothstein starting lineup guess and just accept it as fact. There is too much about it that seems surprising given what we know about the team. He could be right, but there are clear and obvious explanations for why he might not be.

You and Donald are head and shoulders above the other pretenders! However, CFos is in a class by himself.

I think the white team put on quite a show for Rothstein, probably looked like the best pre-season college team he's seen in a long time, and he made the leap to "this has to be the starting lineup".

It's always possible it is, but I'd just be really surprised if Foster is displaced from the starting lineup on Sept 23. I'm still betting on Foster as our third leading scorer.

Shane Battier recently told Caleb Foster about his new Glue Guys podcast. There are currently 5 episodes, and here's the first:

Which X-Men are they? Donald is from Michigan, and Jason has his playing cards, so... Wolverine and Gambit?
