PlagueWatch - Coronavirus

Do you have a Portuguese background? Going to see my Goa pal Marcelino today for celebratory prime rib!
Nope. Just a product of colonized India. The British didn't try to convert us like the Portuguese. Easier to take advantage of Hindu/Muslim tensions.

Back on topic, half the kids in my niece's class were out by the end of the week. Mix of COVID and the flu. It seems later in the winter than the last couple of years.

Got my geezer booster yesterday (Pfizer). Some arm soreness and perhaps a slight fever. My 10th Covid vax! Who would have thought we'd have to keep getting shots for this virus for so long?
With all of those shots you probably don't have any of your original DNA left.

So we may actually be conversing with MPfizer. 😲

10? How did you get so many? We’ve gotten 6 and I think we’ve gotten all of the recommended boosters. Last one was last September/October.

Shots total or just boosters? I've followed the CDC recommendations pretty closely and I've had 8 shots in all, counting the original set of two that were rolled out in Feb/Mar 2021.

It is infuriating that Long Covid does not seem to be listed as a chronic condition that would enable one to continue getting boosters. F’ing unbelievable.

Should this thread title be modified to "Coronovirus Discussion" or something of that nature? I do not think we are in a "Plague Watch" anymore.

I think we are in a plague (or more accurately, an epidemic) watch - just not necessarily Covid any more.

Like I said before, I’m pretty mad right now. It looks like various levels of government will be banning masks and/or restricting access to boosters which are the two easiest things that those with Long Covid use to avoid a new exposure which often makes it worse.

According to the WHO website, over the last 28 days, the US has lost 1,198 people to covid while the whole of Europe has lost 78. The difference can be explained by vaccination rates. After 5 years of data collection, we have good reason to say that mortality rates from flu and covid are comparable. That said, there are age differences. Both are dangerous for the elderly. Flu is significantly more dangerous for the very young. Covid is significantly more dangerous for younger adults (18-49). The last time I could find reliable comparisons of mortality between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated, the mortality rates for the unvaccinated were 4 times higher.
