Northwestern Football Game

Duke added 20,000 bleacher seats to Wade for the Rose Bowl with less than 3 weeks notice. NU can pull it off with 3 months - if they want to.

Definitely - bleachers won't be the limiting factor here. Ohio State used to put up large bleachers at the open end of the horseshoe every season. These were literally on the track, so they couldn't be assembled until the end of track and field season each year. The Jesse Owens Classic this year just took place on Saturday 4/20. These were not small bleachers, either - they held many thousands of people (including, on several occasions, me).

They had no trouble getting them ready for Labor Day weekend, and they didn't get started in April either. They're nowhere to be seen in this photo from the U2 concert on 5/24/97:

Nor in (grainy) footage as late as 8/6/94 from the Billy Joel/Elton John concert:

They hosted a football game 23 days later.

putting up bleachers at an existing, fairly large facility is one thing, adding bleachers to place with not much else is more challenging.

The bleachers are fairly easy. It’s the support structures/utilities such as bathrooms and concessions that might be tougher.

According to fbsschedules.com, we don’t have Northwestern on any future schedule, as this would complete the last contact of home-and-homes. If the game is moved to Durham, we’d likely owe them TWO return visits. We do have enough open spots to do so, if we want. Based on other future games with P4 teams, not sure we want to burn two slots with NU again.

All of that can be brought in on wheels. There are companies that do this sort of thing for festivals, etc. Just costs $$$.

They have space in the end zones by shifting the field south and cannibalizing the football practice field.

The tricky part is on the lake side. I guess they put bleachers in between the light poles and mow down the vegetation.

That was in 1942. Now we can't even manufacture shoes or build housing.

Don't get Boeing to build the temp seating.

Intending to play home games at that parcel should get them kicked out of the Big Integer. That's laughable. And count me on the side that tOSU or ancient Duke bringing in extra bleachers is not remotely comparable to turning that no-viewing-stands-at-all location into a usable Big Integer "stadium."

from that pic, float in and tie up a barge with seating and amenities!

Ryan Field concessions and bathrooms are an exceedingly low bar to clear

Update: Less than 15,000, games late in season will be held elsewhere

As expected, they're not going to be able to erect stands to hold 15,000 and it will be less than that but an exact figure not given. The largest bleachers are actually planned for the area that's now a parking lot -- I was wondering how they were going to fit it in. The planned bleacher locations are in purple below:

It's also being reported that "only some of the six or seven annual home game would be played at the temporary stadium — with the games later in the season that draw the biggest crowds held elsewhere." Although that doesn't make much sense to me because there are "only" 7 home games for NU this season. Not sure if that was meant to read "six or seven home games across the two seasons" or what. Regardless, Duke would fit the category of being played in this temporary facility if it's ready.

But everything is subject to change.

I'm still betting a rancid hot dog they won't be ready for us. Nina will invite them over to play at our house.

He's talking about this year. They do not have any non conference home games scheduled yet for 2025.
For this year, their first 3 games are non-con at home and will be at the makeshift field.
They have two home games in Nov vs tOSU and Illinois that will probably be at Wrigley Field.
Oct 5th against Indiana was rumored to be headed to SeatGeek stadium, but probably gets played on the temporary field.
Oct 19 against Wisconsin is the big question mark. Wrigley could be an option if the Cubs fall apart and miss the playoffs, but you can't count on that.

Not a problem. That was before government was the repository of all wisdom, goodness and knowledge.

pretty much my point, not that I'm against permits, but colleges generally have to jump thru numerous hoops to keep everyone happy these days....even as a relatively minor project, I'm thinking this stadium will take time.

The Bears played at Wrigley Field before moving to Soldiers Field. The left field wall was the back line of the northern end of the field. There was not enough room at the southern end for a full end zone as one end of it was cut so the end zone was not a rectangle. The field is no bigger now so I don't see how they can play there.
