NBA 2024-25 General Discussion Thread

Okay, Redskins fan, take it easy. 😉

The Dallas Cowboys are ALWAYS relevant because they are the most valuable sports franchise on the planet, they have the most fans, they sell the most merchandise, their games are always highly-watched, they’re showcased to the nation every Thanksgiving, they have cool uniforms, they’ve got the star on the helmet, and they have the best cheerleaders.

So, of course, ESPN and all the other sports networks and publications are going to talk about the Cowboys endlessly because people are interested in them. Sports are entertainment, and the Cowboys are entertaining. Period. 🤷‍♂️
And they can't suck enough.

Hard to believe the Pacers shot 33% from 3 and managed to pull off the win. Outside of the first quarter, they did a great job taking care of the ball and played fantastic defense. Most likely outcome is that the Thunder rebound and take game 4, but there is hope in Indy.

A full six days between any commentary on the Finals games, as opposed to broadcasting, ratings, or star power.

I have had it on as background noise - watch the Yankees then switch over. The games are fairly entertaining but just don't have that "wow" factor to me, but that is partially because I'm still recovering from the Knicks losing. The long breaks between games also really kills the momentum of it - after a few months of there being a playoff game (or more) every night, this is not great - no idea why it is every three days rather than every other day.

Game 3 was really entertaining. The Pacers bench was incredible, and their defense really held up in that final 6 minutes when the game was on the line. When I think about the Pacers now, I think about Michael Corleone musing about the Cuban rebels at Hyman Roth's birthday party in Havana...

How about TJ McConnell, huh??? Wow, he just made big play after big play — many of which don’t show up in a box score. And Mathurin….my goodness.

I love this Pacers team! ❤️ 🏀

I don't love the Pacers, because they are my team's rival, and I don't like Halli (I find him annoying), but I really respect them and I think Carlisle is tremendous. McConnell's repeated stealing of inbounds passes after made baskets, Mathurin's absolutely ridiculous offensive confidence, Toppin got crunch time minutes over Siakam. Something very intriguing is the fact that one narrative coming in was that Indy couldn't match up with OKC's size, yet Bradley didn't play at all last night and Bryant barely played. Those guys were huge against the Knicks. It's so easy to think the tenor of a series changes game-by-game, so one still has to assume that OKC is the favorite, but we certainly have an extremely interesting Game 4 to look forward to.

Billy, this honestly might be the first time you’ve said something that doesn’t make sense to me. Tyrese Halliburton is an incredible player, imo.

But I actually sort of get it — you being a Knicks fan and all that. 🤷‍♂️

Steven - that fact that we don't disagree more has me questioning my ethics and morality! (rim shot - hey now - I'll be here all week - please tip your wait staff and bartenders)

Listen, I think he's a really really good player. Maybe he's even great. But, yes, I root very hard against him and I find him incredibly annoying in the same way I disliked Reggie Miller.

Reggie Miller was indisputably a great player and annoying. Loved watching him.

Outstanding reference and one with which I agree. I missed most of the last two games due to travel but have seen extended highlights from both. The Pacers are playing with no fear and Carlisle has been great in terms of tactical and lineup adjustments. I can't imagine there were many times this season when the Thunder at full strength saw their bench outscored by 30+ points like it was last night.

And wrt to your second post above, I think OKC has played into Indy's hands somewhat by going small with Holmgren at the 5 more often and using Hartenstein primarily as his backup, rather than playing the two together.

Billy, not sure what you’re talking about in regard to my morality. Maybe I’ll ask my neighbor her thoughts. 😉

This is for you, buddy!

Meanwhile, we're seeing brilliance at work as the New York Knicks follow their meticulous plan to find a new head coach. From Shams Charania:

1. Ask to speak to Chris Finch denied by Timberwolves
2. Ask to speak to Ime Udoka denied by Rockets
3. Ask to speak to Jason Kidd denied by Mavericks
4. Ask to speak to Quin Snyder denied by Hawks
5. Look into former coaches, maybe?

It's all falling into place now.
Knicks’ Winning Strategy
1. Fire Tom Thibodeau
2. ??????????
3. Championships!!!
