NBA 2024-2025 General Discussion Thread

Good point, tommy. OKC’s front office seems like a buy-low, sell-high investor that has built a portfolio that is performing very well.
One other thing about OKC. They also drafted PG Nikola Topic last year, who was maybe gonna be a top 5 pick before tearing his ACL and having to miss this entire year. They could afford to have him miss a year as obviously they have a powerhouse squad anyway. Again, management of this team is very smart. Could turn out to be a brilliant, forward-thinking move.

Watch that play and tell me what every other Celtic on the floor did to help Tatum. They other four guys basically don't move at all. They don't get their defenders to move to create space. Horford kinda sets a screen, sorta... but it accomplishes nothing and then Horford gets in the way of the Tatum drive. The rest of the guys are just standing there hoping that Tatum can win the game going 1 on 3.

Agree that the coaching from Mazzulla, a good buddy of Jon Scheyer, has been less than stellar.
"Less than stellar" is being awfully charitable. In addition to all of the other examples of coaching malpractice I could offer as to Mazzulla in this series, just think about this end of game play. There was no play, as you note. No action. No movement. Mazzulla had a timeout to use before this play. He didn't use it. You use it, you get an excellent shooter like Pritchard in the game, you advance the ball to give yourself some extra time, and you design something or use a play you like that involves something other than one guy taking it 1-on-3 while two New York defenders are able to cover the other four stationary Celtics. This was probably the most important possession of the season for Boston -- season quite possibly on the line -- and Mazzulla didn't call a timeout to get his optimal lineup on the floor and to set up any kind of play at all. Results were predictable.

Indiana falls way behind Cleveland, begins a comeback, and then Donovan Mitchell stops the bleeding by... are you ready for this?... Driving to the hole and getting to the FT line. Wow! Who would have thought that of that strategy to stop a run by the other team?

I doubt Hikaru Nakamura is hurting for money. Definitely not hurting for social media followers.
Who?? Are you telling me this dude makes a very handsome living playing a board game? 🤔

Actually, now that I think about it I’ve made well over a million dollars over the years playing Monopoly, so I guess it is plausible. 💵

Cleveland is right back in this series. They are going to win easily tonight, and will set up Game 4 as a key. If Cleveland wins that one, they probably go on to win the series. If Indiana can win Game 4, they probably go on to win. It will be all important.

His net worth is Monopoly money -

“According to multiple sources the 34-year-old GM has a fortune around $50 million with only a small percentage of those earnings coming from prizes he has won in chess competitions. “

What in the heck happened to Indiana last night? I wasn’t able to watch the game because my wife and I watched “A Deadly American Marriage” and “The Four Seasons” on Netflix as well as got in the hot tub and drank too much whiskey 🥃

So when I saw the results of the game I was shocked. I thought Indiana would be all energized and ready to go up three games to none in front of the home crowd. Instead they lose by over 20 points and playoff hero Haliburton scores only 4 points. Whaaaaat??

Magnus Carlsen is the handsome one. He quit defending his world championship because he was bored / they weren’t offering enough money. Hasn’t hurt him.

Man, this OKC Denver game is off to a brutal start. Denver scores 8 points in the 1st on 2-22 shooting (0-14 from 3). Luckily for Denver OKC has not been much better and leads 17-8 at the end of the 1st!

Here come the refs to the rescue of Denver. Six fouls on OKC in less than four minutes of play in the second quarter. Eight foul shots for Denver in that same span.

I think it was more a lack of calls against Denver for the exact same kind of defense in the second quarter. Both teams were playing ultra physical, but there was a stretch there where only OKC was being called for fouls.
The calls seem to be going against Denver, otherwise why is Joker so apoplectic?
