NBA 2024-2025 General Discussion Thread

I want to see Cooper declare and in his announcement say he is leaving the door open to return. This will force the NBA to rig the lottery and send him to Utah or San Antonio instead of DC, Brooklyn or Charlotte.
I’m not sure why the league office would steer Cooper away from the largest media market in the U.S., but one of those places is definitely not like the others.
What about the Heat for Coop?
While I’m sure Coop would love to take his talents to South Beach, there’s about a 2% chance of that happening right now.

Yea the Nets have had a rough few years but they’re a competent organization with a good coach and a lot of draft capital. Not a bad landing spot.

Charlotte and Washington both have relatively new management too, but both have a ways to go before they can be upgraded to competent. Also the Hornets are clearly cursed so there’s that.

I just don’t want him on Utah playing late games with 87 other white guys. Anything further west than New Orleans is too far IMO.

We all rooting for a 6-way tie for 3rd place in the Western Conference right?

They’re saying there’s a chance. [Insert Jim Carrey .gif here]

Looks like Seth Curry will be 3 pt % leader for season. 5 of 7 last night for the powerhouse Hornets and more than a percent ahead of Zach Levine.

Kennard faded down the stretch.

It was a true masterstroke by the Mavs front office to trade away - as everyone but them understands - their title aspirations as well as their golden goose.

From an ESPN article by NBA writer Tim MacMahon and published yesterday:

Dallas traded the single best and most valuable thing about sports: a superstar that loved his fans and vice versa.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. On so many levels.

I haven't noticed that but haven't been looking. But once again he was out for most of the season; that's 4 years out of 6 where he's played 30 games or less. I expect that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. It does me.

At this point the Pels can cut him any time and owe him nothing. Maybe they can get a starter and first round draft pick if they trade him to a desperate team. Personally I think he's not a guy you want around when you're trying to build accountability and a winning culture.
New Orleans shut him down for the season several weeks ago. I suspect he could have played but not winning was the goal. So not entirely his fault this year, but he still can't stay on the floor. Too bad because he played great when he played.

Well, I now expect GS to get in at the 7 spot and beat the hapless Rockets. I’m actually really serious on that one. I don’t believe in Houston for a second.

After watching GSW-Houston play last week, I think the officiating will have a huge effect on any game between these two teams. In last week's Houston victory, Curry was grabbed, hugged, bumped, etc off the ball all game long. I don't know that I'll ever understand why Steph can't buy a call in the NBA. If Houston is allowed to give Steph the LSU-Redick treatment it doesn't bode well for the GSW.

Houston may well flame out in the playoffs but I wouldn’t describe them as hapless at all. They’re the # 2 seed in a tough West for a reason.

They lack playoff experience and they don’t have a go-to crunch time guy, but they will defend hard and well, and they’ll run waves of athletes out there. Not an easy out.
