NBA 2024-2025 General Discussion Thread

This is a long list with too much to list. I'd start with.:

- Get rid of player empowerment. They will need a new commissioner for that.
- Get rid of guaranteed contracts. (There is a reason NFL is king)
- Get rid of 1 and done. You either go out of HS or have to go to college for 2+ yrs. Young talent doesn't win and they aren't physically or mentally ready for 82 games.
- Load Management
- League needs to be more physical.
- Too many crybabies and complaining.
- I think late 90's to about 2010 seems like a good balance.

Interesting list. Let's see
- no, we don't need rich owners with all the power
- no, the NFL has it wrong, they use and abuse players
- sure
- not really an issue, want to get rid of it, reward playoff teams more
- no, he1l no, I prefer flowy hoops. I'll watch football when I want to see football
- somebody get those damn kids off my lawn
- no, too physical

There was another post claiming that the league's talent level is diluted. It's not, it's just that some guys are so good it makes solid, talented players look average or less than average.

I think I'd go earlier, but less about the specific timeframe and more about talent dilution as the number of teams has increased. Just looking at the teams that have joined since the Mavs were the 23rd team in 1980: Miami, Hornets, Pelicans, Magic, Wolves, Raptors and Grizz. I think at most you'd keep the Heat and Magic. And Silver wants to add Las Vegas and Seattle? To me that's about getting more potential viewers, but it's shortsighted because the product will just get worse.

To me, all the 3s are a symptom of decline, not the cause. They're a symptom because you can fill out a lot more teams with good shooters than with highly skilled players, who are much less common.

If Duke would just play top 15 teams a couple of times each for its regular season, I'd enjoy that way more than how we schedule today. I think similar would apply to the NBA, with fewer teams and better talent concentration, every game would matter, unlike the snooze fest that's the current regular season.
You don’t think today’s NBA players are highly skilled? Really?

Also in order to make the regular season games more meaningful you have to reduce the number of games which the owners are not going to do. Having fewer teams wouldn’t matter if you don’t reduce the length of the schedule.

Today's players are bigger, stronger more talented, and from all over the world. Nostalgia is the only real reason to suggest otherwise.

Big night in the NBA. Jokic with the first ever 30/20/20 game against the Suns and Mason Plumlee.

It might be 30-40 years before we see this again.
I mean Mason didn’t even start and still managed 18 and 11 in 18 fewer minutes than Jokic - also the game went to OT.

Jokic is awesome though

That might be the first time — and the last time — that Mason Plumlee gets compared to Nikola Jokić! 😂

To your point, if Plumlee had played those 18 additional minutes and accumulated stats at the same rate, he would have finished with 27 and 16.

So, Plumlee would have just needed to find 3 more points, 4 more rebounds, and *checks notes* 20 more assists to join Jokic in the 30-20-20 club.

To be clear my post was in response to saying Jokic did it “against Mason.” Mason played half the game. And he scored and rebounded at a really high rate too. Richards who started was not nearly as efficient as Mason and had half the rebounds. Oh and Mason was +11 while Richards was -19…

Kidding aside, it wasn’t that long ago that Plumlee and Jokic were teammates, and looking at Denver’s +/- with Joker off the court they probably wish he was still there.

Lol, just a mere 20 more assists! 😂

Lebron is having a better season than some of his mvp seasons.
Don't like seeing the Lakers, Warriors and Bucks all picking up steam as we near the end of the regular season.

In the Eastern Conference, I'm just hoping the Knicks can hold on to the 3 spot. I'd much rather Boston face them in the semi's rather than the Bucks. Let Milwaukee and Cleveland battle on that side of the bracket (1 seed vs 4 seed, which is where things stand right now).

Jalen Brunson is out for a few weeks and he is the key guy that makes the Knicks go (particularly since they aren't very deep). The Knicks have a few game buffer over the Bucks and at the back end of the estimated two week injury period they play San Antonio, Charlotte, Washington then Dallas so might be able to get through that stretch without him.
