NBA 2024-2025 General Discussion Thread

i was listening to a sports podcast and word is going around that Dallas wanted to begin tanking fan support to prep for an eventual move to Vegas. Getting AD keeps them competitive until that move but makes everyone mad enough to be ok with a move.

Well, well, well, the C’s went into Cleveland last night and punked the Cavaliers even though Jayson Tatum was only 7-23 from the field, Kristaps Porziņģis only 7-20 and Jrue Holiday a mere 1-6.

It was a testament to just how deep these Celtics truly are that they were able to go on the road and fairly handily beat the team who has been the Eastern Conference’s best all season with 60% of their starting lineup shooting so poorly.

I think it’s fair to say the demise of the Boston Celtics has been greatly exaggerated. 🍀

yes indeed. They don't have quite the hunger they had last year, but they have a great roster and lots of pieces that fit, as long as Porzy stays healthy.

One thing I haven't heard discussed much is the impact of the Olympics. The Celtics had three guys (Tatum, Holiday and White) play into the middle of June in the Finals, then turn around pretty quickly to start Olympic training camp and play through mid-August. Training camp started a little more than a month later (and included a trip to Dubai for exhibition games). Those three guys have had very little down time to refresh physically and mentally. Tack on the fact that every team they play is out for blood (not unlike Duke's opponents), and you can understand why those three guys in particular could be fatigued.

Someone this morning on bluesky posted that in three years, Dallas traded or let walk, Porzingis, Brunson, and Doncic and basically got Dinwiddie, Anthony Davis, and a draft pic in return. Ouch.

Wizards going all in for Cooper. They just traded Kuzma for Khris Middleton.
I was at the Wizards/ Hornets game Monday night. They scored 77 points in the 1st half against the Hornets “defense”. Guess they figured they needed to get even worse quickly.

Hornets should trade Bridges for a pack of gum just to spite them.

I'd rather have broken down Khris Middleton playing 15 mpg than Kyle Kuzma, one of the least efficient offensive players in the league and a terrible defender. What an inexplicable gaffe by the Bucks. Far worse than trading for Anthony Davis, by the way, a top-10 player and one of the best defenders in the league, and more durable than Luka over the last two seasons.

Well done, crote. Elton it is! That was counter-intuitive to me because he had so many injuries, but he played in 17 different seasons, which is wild! here's the top 10 just in minutes played:
Elton, Grant, Deng, Shane, Dunleavy Jr., Booz, Kyrie (active), Laettner, Marin, Mullins

Laettner was way higher than I remembered. If Kyrie keeps playing and stays healthy, he'll move pretty high up, maybe even as high as #1. Tatum sits at 14th and certainly seems to have a shot at the top spot by the time he's done.

Speaking of Anthony Davis, I’ve been surprised that I haven’t heard much talk of how his loss is going to hurt the Lakers. He was their best player overall, their best defender and their rim protector. Doncic replaces very little of that.

Doncic is a great offensive player, don’t get me wrong, but much of his skillset overlaps with that of LeBron James. I remain unconvinced that the Lakers are a title threat as currently constructed.
