NBA 2024-2025 General Discussion Thread

The NBA regular season is underway, and while we already have a Blue Devils in the NBA thread, we may need a place to discuss Bronny James and the 425 other non-Duke players on the opening night rosters -- yes, I did the math -- as well as the non-Duke coaches, executives, and staff.

It's also the beginning of the end for TNT's Inside the NBA, so I'll let those guys have the first and second word. As always, content warning: Kenny Smith.

I watch a ton of NBA basketball. I bet that I watch at least 30 minutes nearly every night during the season. I generally watch the games on TNT, ESPN or NBA TV. I usually get at least one Duke player to watch during those games. Anyway, when did the NBA start playing so many same team back to back games. I feel like there have been several this season already. The Pels and the Warriors play again tonight after playing last night and the Pels played the Trailblazers back to back already. I think this is terrible. You might catch a team twice when you're a player down or just not playing well. It really is unfair for the playoffs.

I agree. I was looking at the schedule and the Hornets host the Celtics this Friday and Saturday. The good news is that it makes a back-to-back a bit easier as neither team is traveling. But it is not a good idea. The reasons you cited are the main ones. But also from a fan's perspective, let's say you are a Celtics fan in Charlotte. If the Celtics were coming to town in November and February you might go twice. But you are probably a lot less likely to go two nights in a row. And what if you happen to be away or busy the weekend they are in town?

I know the NBA deals with a lot of constraints when building schedules but this was a bad idea. And I thought they had made some adjustments to the schedule to cut down the number of back-to-backs. I don't know if the in season tournament or whatever it is (which I still don't really understand or particularly like, though I know others differ on that) might have made it harder to do?

Maybe Adam Silver reads DBR and can do something about this. Obviously not the biggest problem in my life or even in the NBA, but it isn't a great idea.

Yea, I’m going Saturday and appreciated being able to pick either night, but no way was I doing both.

Unfortunately, the Lakers' fast start appears to have been a mirage. And with Davis being gimpy now, it's going to get worse. The team just can't guard on the perimeter. Maybe could mean an opportunity for Cam Reddish, who played well the other night.
JJ made some lineup changes and Davis came back. We’ll see.

Meanwhile the oldest nba player notched a triple double. Insane.

Redick benches D'Angelo Russell in favor of Cam Reddish. Let the cries of nepotism begin!

Reddish didn’t have a great offensive game against Philly but played really good defense on Paul George. I still believe that Cam is a bit of confidence away from being a great NBA player.

It's also the beginning of the end for TNT's Inside the NBA...

Change of plans.

Even though "Inside the NBA" will be on ESPN and ABC beginning with the 2025-26 season, TNT Sports will continue to produce the popular studio show, and it will air from Atlanta, except when the show goes on the road.

The quartet of Ernie Johnson Jr., Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal will remain with the show. Barkley signed an extension with WBD [Warner Bros. Discovery] in August despite the fact that the company lost its rights to air NBA games in the United States starting next season.

Awful Announcing adds a report from CNBC's Alex Sherman: "Inside the NBA will continue and be licensed to ESPN. All the talent will remain TNT Sports employees and can be used in other future shows or projects for Warner Bros. Discovery."

So don't expect "Inside the NBA" to do a crossover with ESPN's "First Take", but do expect a crossover with TruTV's "Impractical Jokers", Food Network's Guy Fieri, or HGTV's Property Brothers.
