Although it is somewhat lost in the shuffle of random Trump thoughts and actions, it appears that he will appoint a presidential commission to consider college sports and NIL issues. Co-chaired by Nick Saban who, of course, introduced Trump at the University of Alabama commencement ceremony.

I'm intrigued by this and wonder who else will be on the commission - if not Coach K, why not? Will it result in an executive order? lf so, will that withstand judicial scrutiny? Will it result in legislation?

The possibilities are endless and, I think, there is some chance for success. At least a better chance of success than reviving Alcatraz
"Consider NIL issues" is a pretty broad statement. I'll just say that it is something that needs to be done, but I don't trust that it is a good use government time and energy, and I will be very, uh, curious to see their findings.

Both of these guys got out in large part because of NIL and the mucky mess it was becoming. It's fine having a voice of reason from their era, but it would be better served to have someone who is in involved as a rep of how things are today. Neither viewpoint is sustainable, so there will have to be some kind of compromise; any "commission" is best served by being headed by two sides.

I have two different thoughts on the government getting involved. First, that the government should have better and more important things to do. Second, it might actually be something that the two sides of the aisle can agree on, which is a start.

Good points. do you have any thoughts on who should serve on this commission?

I've been following this in the news. Every story ignores the imminent House settlement which largely does what Saban says he wants. I'd be really interested to know what else Saban is proposing. Does he even know?

Pretty rich that Nick Saban, who made ungodly sums of money coaching college football, is now leading the charge to limit the ability of the college players to make as much money as they can in return for their services.
Nick Saban working really hard to make the caricature he plays in the VRBO commercials into the "good guy" part of his image.
