Movies/TV worth watching (or at least discussing)

Proof that different strokes make the world go round. Fringe is up there with my favorite shows of all time. I found House of Cards silly and unwatchable and had no interest in Breaking Bad.
Yeah like I said, I can really appreciate the great writing of Breaking Bad but I just hated all the characters (didn’t care if anyone died or succeeded) and I’m very character driven.

Better Call Saul is more character driven and less macho themed than BB. And while no one in BCS is without moral compromise there are characters it is easy to root for.

tl:dr vers- Give BCS a try even if BB didn't wet your whistle.

That is exactly how we felt. We tried several times and may have watched all of season one on the second go, but eventually decided that while it was excellent quality, we couldn’t get into it.

I’m not trying to be confrontational, but if you believe this, how is White Lotus so high on your list? The lack of any redeemable characters in the first season made it absolutely painful to me to watch and I skipped subsequent seasons. I believe my highest accomplishment on the off topic board is getting a separate thread on it so I did t have to wade through the muck.

I can’t speak for JNort but I find many of Mike White’s characters in WL to be more complex and, because of that, somewhat relatable despite their flaws. In season 1 of WL I pulled for Belinda (no reason not to), Tanya (poor little rich girl, so much hurt!), Rachel (mostly bc she is the beautiful Alexandra Daddario), Quinn (socially awkward son) and even the shxx-in-the-suitcase manager Armond (the hilarious Murray Bartlett). But if idle wealth is a mood killer for you I totally understand why WL wasn’t your cup of tea.

It was the exact opposite of how I felt with BB. I LOVE the characters. I don’t need to think they are good people. The Lotus characters much like Succession were fascinating and had amazing interactions while being awful human beings, I found my self’s flipping back and forth on wanting some to succeed or fail but felt I could connect with them. BB didn’t do “bad” very well outside of Gus who I did actually enjoy somewhat. I found the decision making of the characters to be quite silly. Ultimately it still comes down to I just don’t care about the overall story so it made it hard to care.

Season four of The Bear starts next week IIRC. Good one to binge now.
Love the Bear. Some episodes are significantly better than others but overall a great show. No major plans for 4th of July weekend so I will binge then. Hopefully there will be more Coach K references this season!

Yep. You have to make me like the characters. GOT had some characters who were absolutely despicable...but I liked them. House of the Dragon screwed this up so far. I cared sooooooo much about the lead characters on The Americans. And they were Soviet agents. But you find yourself rooting for them because they are insanely likeable.

Yeah. GOT was often VERY funny in addition to having so many sympathetic and wildly interesting characters.

Other than Mr foot fetish nobody is even kind of interesting, sympathetic or funny to me.

Poltergeist - Yes, years ago hoping to reboot as a new franchise. It’s not terrible but forgetful.

Goonies - In development. WB hired a writer and Steven et al are on as producers.

Told you it’s only a matter of time before they mine it all. They are going to get to Krull eventually as they take the dregs.
Any more Krull slander and I'll have to break out my glaive.

On a more serious note, does anyone remember the Krull arcade game? Probably better than the movie -- and I don't know that it was that great.

I mean, did you read my post two days ago about it?!?
I loved that video game! Used to line up the quarters and play it forever. You could get points by being close to the boulders on the first level without letting them hit you and I would just collect a ton of points that way to set the high score. It took time and was sorta mindless but that was 1980s video games.

The movie was beyond trash (but you can spot a pair of nobodies named Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrane in the trailer).
