Movies/TV worth watching (or at least discussing)

Do yourself a favor and see Anora. Easily one of the best films of the year, it is a wild ride full of emotion, humor, and realistic characters. Here is my 100-word review: https://flixchat.blogspot.com/2024/11/jason-evans-100-word-reviews-anora.html

I was rivetted to the story and quickly found myself caring deeply about Ani’s struggles. Mikey Madison is a star on the rise who is certain to earn numerous awards for this brave performance.

During my timeout from here and while avoiding election results on Tuesday I binged the rest of the latest season of Only Murders in the Building. Like prior seasons, it was a lot of fun. As a New Yorker, I was worried that it was being shifted to LA but it turned out to largely be filmed and themed in NYC (other than the one Long Island-centric episode, which was excellent). There were some fun cameos and it was very true to the prior seasons. The Westies and the actors were a great addition and were included just the right amount.

I just finished watching Disclaimer, a limited series on AppleTV. The show is a revenge/mystery show starring heavyweights Kate Blanchett, Kevin Klein and Sacha Baron Cohen. Not surprising the acting is fantastic. Klein and Cohen play roles that are very different from their usual fare, so much so it took me a while to recognize them. But be forewarned - you will have to roll with some credulity-stretching plot points. I was able to do that and I’m glad I did. I would give the show a B+, which fits its 77% RT rating and 7.3 on IMDB.

Not surprisingly, I echo everything CNC just said. This season of Murders was fun - a great distraction from everything else going on.
Not to ruin your day but I just walked by the building and I'm pretty sure that the westies live on the east side and Steve Martin lives on the west side. Ruins the whole thing :p

Seemingly years ago, I posted my comments about the Netflix series Arcane, which is one of the best animated shows ever. The reason I haven't commented since those years is because something this amazing takes a long time to create. And lots of money. Supposedly to the tune of $250 million.
Yesterday, the second (and sadly final) season dropped, and it's worth the wait. I spent the last week or so rewatching the first to catch up and get reacquainted, which was also worthwhile. The characters and acting in the show are worthy of the most amazing animation ever. (As is the soundtrack.)

Anyway, if you've never watched, do yourself a favor and tune in. It's based on a video game that I've never played, and there is no need to know anything about it. (League of Legends). There's a reason it has a 100% RT score.

Also, I still have a sad about no Winter Movie Poll.

I blew it on the Winter movie poll. What with the start of the basketball season and the election dominating my life, I totally spaced on it. Sorry!!!

I LOVED season one, and am re-watching it with my kids so they can catch up. So glad to hear that the second season lives up to the very high bar of the first.

Am I the only one that's excited about season 2 of Silo?

You are not alone. Silo is another show that I loved and then re-watched with my kids (and it's great on re-watch to see how they set everything in motion in the early episodes). My kids loved it so much they read the books and now we are all super excited for the next season.

We’re making our way through season 3 of industry. I’m impressed. Exploring some very real stuff in very serious ways. It always walked the line with dark humor but feel like it is hitting its stride and also making me hate Jon Snow.

Second season of The Diplomat on Netflix was most suspenseful and entertaining
I really loved the first season! However, when I finally dove into the premiere of the second season, I had a different experience... they talked so fast, rapid firing so many names that I was struggling to keep up. I will give it another shot though..

do that...terrific twists and turns, most entertaining, great cast...plus it's only six episodes, easy to digest. Nice that Keri Russell isn't a Russki anymore, at least that we know of.
