MBB: The 2025 Transfer Portal

Personality-wise, he seems like the basketball equivalent of Spurrier. As long as he doesn't do badly (and so far the recruiting looks very good), I think State fans are going to love him.

I think the side effect is that they'll pony up bucks for him to build really good rosters.
I would be happy to have State be good enough to hate again. Good for them, good for our state, good for the ACC.

State fans like their coaches colorful.

Will Wade personally attacked a fellow coach, beyond anything Spurrier did, I believe.
At Duke, at least.

Yeah, at the risk of derailing the thread, Steve Spurrier's insults are all-time classics. These are just the ones about fellow coaches.

"Dabo [Swinney] still thinks there are 9 planets out there."
"If I had a defense like Hal Mumme has, I’d be trying [onside kicks] during every kickoff."
"I saw a story saying Jim Haslett comes in at 4:30 every morning. That's not doing him much good."

When asked if he liked his chances against Georgia...
"Is Ray Goff still coaching there?"

And finally, he's also insulted a UNC coach. When Mack Brown claimed that Spurrier disrespected Kenan Stadium for taking a photo at midfield after a Duke win...
"Why? I’ve got a better record on that field than he does."

Best one : “You can’t spell Citrus [Bowl] without U-T!”

Oh, he made a number of terrific digs at Tennessee's expense, but these quotes are about other coaches, and from what I can tell, he never said anything directly negative about Phillip Fulmer. (Come on, Coach Spurrier. Not even when he was a movie actor?)

Here are the ins and outs of the ACC so far. If anyone copies this list to another website (hint hint, Syracusefan.com board), please provide credit and a link to DBR.

I am dying to see how Stanley does if he gets some playing time. Sorta thought we might see him at an Ivy or a D3 program but am just eager to watch him actually play in games more than mop-up time.

From everything i had heard he was an academic superstar so I also thought he would leverage basketball for a top tier grad program. This is an odd choice.

Plus given what happened in April in San Antonio I didn’t think he would be eager to return - don’t remember the Alamo.

By transferring, Stanley was hoping to find a program to offer him a basketball scholarship that would pay for grad school. If he stayed at Duke as a walk-on, he would not have a scholarship and would have to pay for grad school himself. Spoke with him at length at the ACCT and East Regional...
