Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils, ranked #6 in the AP preseason poll, invite Johnny Dawkins and the UCF Knights for the second edition of the Brotherhood Run, a preseason exhibition in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, October 21 at 7pm ET. If you're not attending the game, you can watch it on ACCNX (streaming link, listen, live stats). You should have access to ACCNX if your TV provider carries the ACC Network.
About a month ago, I wrote a little bit about UCF in post #20 of the MBB 2025-26: Big XII/Big 12 Teams thread. Coach Dawkins is starting his 10th year in Orlando, and he's under contract through the 2026-27 season. Aside from an 11-12 record in that weird and shortened 2020-21 COVID year, he's been over .500 every season. The Knights upgraded from the American to the Big 12 in 2023, and while they've stayed afloat with 17-16 and 20-17 records in those two seasons, they've gone 7-11 and 7-13 in conference play.
Coach Dawkins spoke to the local media earlier this week. Here's the video.
I've broken down their roster below. I focus on minutes per game because it is, low-key, the best basic statistic to give us a sense of a player's prior usage.
Last year of eligibility
5-11 guard Poohpha Warakulnukroh #33 (1.0 mpg for UCF in 2024-25)
6-4 guard George Beale Jr #3 (24.4 mpg at Hampton)
6-6 forward Devan Cambridge #5 (17.7 mpg at Texas Tech)
5-11 guard Arturo Dean #?? (24.4 mpg at Oklahoma State)
6-2 guard Themus Fulks #1 (34.2 mpg at Milwaukee)
6-5 guard Riley Kugel #2 (22.4 mpg at Mississippi State)
6-8 forward Jamichael Stillwell #4 (28.0 mpg at Milwaukee)
2 years of eligibility
6-9 forward Jordan Burks #99 (18.6 mpg at Georgetown)
6-11 center Jeremy Foumena #0 (2.9 mpg at Mississippi State)
7-0 center Elijah Hulsewe #9 (redshirted 2024-25; 13.2 mpg at Bethune-Cookman 2023-24)
6-5 guard Chris Johnson #22 (17.0 mpg at Stephen F. Austin)
6-5 guard Carmelo Pacheco #11 (28.2 mpg at Mount St. Mary's)
3 years of eligibility
7-2 center John Bol #7 (4.1 mpg at Ole Miss)
6-9 guard Kris Parker #5 (10.0 mpg at Villanova)
4 years of eligibility
6-6 guard Zach Johnson #24 (unranked; USA)
6-4 guard Tanner Jones #30 (unranked; USA)
I have a few notes to add. Redshirt senior guard and deep bench player Poohpha Warakulnukroh (who's from Thailand and attended Montverde Academy) is the only returner on this team. Everyone else is new.
There was a roster of 15, but just a couple of weeks ago -- October surprise? -- they added a 16th player, 5-11 senior guard Arturo Dean. He led the Big 12 in steals at Oklahoma State last season, and led the nation in that category when he played at Florida International as a sophomore in 2023-24. (I know that Jai Lucas and Miami pursued him in the transfer portal a few months ago, but nothing came from it.) He's not listed on the roster yet, and I don't even know his jersey number.
Devan Cambridge is in his 7th year of college basketball, beginning as an Auburn freshman in the fall of 2019. To put that in perspective, he arrived on campus at the same time as Tigers teammate Isaac Okoro, who went one-and-done, was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the #5 pick in 2020, and has played 334 NBA games over 5 seasons. Anyway, Cambridge played three mostly healthy seasons for former coach Bruce Pearl and then a fourth full season for Bobby Hurley at Arizona State. It's that fifth season that's causing a delay. He played a total of 14 games in two (redshirt) seasons at Texas Tech. And now he's wrapping things up, presumably. Cambridge will join Themus Fulks and Riley Kugel as the UCF player representatives at Big XII Media Days next Wednesday, which means they'll have already played an exhibition game before meeting the media.
Junior guard Carmelo Pacheco is getting another chance at Duke. He played for Mount St. Mary's last season, but got injured in the final game of the regular season, and was unable to play during their MAAC Tournament run and in their NCAA first round game.
Finally, we have freshman guard Tanner Jones (bio), who happens to be the son of Dahntay Jones, former Blue Devil and current assistant coach with the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers. Coach Dawkins was an associate head coach at Duke during Dahntay's two seasons there (2001-03). Tanner was at IMG Academy before he committed to UCF.

I went with a recent photo, but you can find a few licensed photos of toddler Tanner on the court when his father played for the Denver Nuggets. It's another layer to the Brotherhood Run. Discuss the game here.
