MBB: Duke hosts UNC (Saturday 3/7, 6:30pm ET, ESPN) Pregame & In-Game Thread

Looked like an over and back on UNC late in game that was not called. Jay Williams started to say something but didn’t finish his thought. UNC did get at least one bad call. The ref blew his whistle early on a clock shot violation. The shot was actually good but the ref took the goal away and put .6 seconds on the clock for them to try to score. They didn’t. But so unusual for a call to go against UNC in Chapel Hill.

How about this: Boozer player of the year. Wilson freshman of the year. (This is a prediction, not an endorsement.)
How can the Player of the Year not also be the Freshman of the Year.... Doesn't compute with me. Player of the Year is the "best" of ALL players... freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and grads... As far as I know, there's not a sophomore of the year, junior of the year, etc. Cameron being a "freshman" shouldn't count against him.

It was not. Both the player and the ball must be completely over the mid-court line to the front court and then go backwards into the back court for it to be a violation. The cheater’s player only had one foot in the front court. Unfortunately not a violation.

Looks like we will play UNC twice in a week. Once Saturday, and again in the ACC semis. They will be the #4 seed, on our side of the bracket. I’d love to wallop them twice. I think we win big, despite Wilson (EXTREMELY LIKELY) coming back for the first game this Saturday. Wilson is a player we can contain but not shut down, and that’s ok. We can shut down the rest of them and win big.

Like a National Player of the year not winning his Conference Player of the Year? We can ask Jay Williams. That generation of ACC writers is gone but they were a bunch.

I’m not 100% sure Wilson plays, but I am pretty sure he won’t be full strength. He hasn’t played in almost a month. And he’s not a senior like Ryan Kelly when he had his break out.

Anything can happen, but I think given the way we’re playing, how the team and staff have grown since the first game, it would take a major anomaly for us not to win this game handily. Doesn’t mean it can’t happen. And I’m still nervous as hell.
like only having one foul called on the cheats' defense for an entire half, while playing through heavy contact? That sort of anomaly?

Isn't it though? So very unusual. We'll see Ron, Roger or Lee or maybe even two of them on Sat. Roger is very likely going to call the FF, he's been all over the country this season. I hate myself for knowing that.
Ron Groover and Lee Cassell just officiated Duke's last game, Ron officiated last night's Carolina game, and Ron officiated the first Duke-UNC game. Fortunately I don't think we see either of them on Saturday. Roger Ayers is a lock for Saturday. I'd guess Bert Smith and AJ Desai for the other two (based on who else officiated the aforementioned games).

Bert Smith worked our game vs Virginia. My guess is we won't see him.

Totally agree. And while Clemson did foul him, it was AFTER the over and back on the replay.

EDIT: Just read DU82's clarification (I am not a ref nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night)

Just to make backcourt/frontcourt rulings easier in the future, look for where 3 points are: Right foot, left foot, ball.

All 3 must be in the frontcourt before the player has frontcourt status.

It was very hard to deny that the whistle was blown early.
