[Note: For this preview, I'm assuming that the game will take place as scheduled on Monday, whether or not we actually weather the weather.]

The 5th-ranked Duke Blue Devils (18-1, 7-0 ACC) get a rematch in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the Louisville Cardinals (14-5, 4-3 ACC), ranked 23rd in the AP poll, just 20 days after their first game at the KFC Yum! Center, which Duke won 84-73. Part Two should tip off at 7pm ET, to watch or stream on ESPN (streaming link, listen, live stats).

With the NFL regular season over, ESPN needs high-end content for Monday nights, so this is the first of three Saturday-Monday turnarounds on Duke's schedule. Fortunately, none of them involve long distance travel.

Duke hosts Wake Forest (1/24), Duke hosts Louisville (1/26)
Duke hosts Clemson (2/14), Duke hosts Syracuse (2/16)
Duke hosts Virginia (2/28), Duke at NC State (3/2)

This is also a quick turnaround for the Cards, who hosted and beat Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon (85-71: recap, box score, highlights, presser). Freshman point guard Mikel Brown Jr returned to action in his first appearance since December 13. He scored a team-high 20 points in his belated ACC debut, and added 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal. Starting center Sananda Fru added a double-double, with 13 points and 10 boards. After the game, head coach Pat :geek: Kelsey said that due to the weather, they would not be traveling on Sunday. Read his quote below.

Coach Kelsey: "As of right now, we can't get out tomorrow. We're flying day of game. Awesome. Let's figure it out. You know, when do you ever do that? I'm going back to my winter days, man. Big South. Drive five hours to Radford, eat some sandwiches on the bus on the way there for pregame meal, play the game, and drive back. Been there, done that.

So we'll figure it out. And I don't know. Weather and injuries, I can't control either one of those. We'll see how this thing all plays out. Looking forward to the challenge. Obviously, we all know how good Duke is. It should be a big time college basketball game."

I'll have more to say about the Louisville Cardinals later this weekend, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Feel free to talk about Monday's game here.

I grew up in Charleston. My dad graduated from CofC. My high school qb played there, graduated, and went on to a 13-year career in the NBA. My brother went to high school with BC's (but formerly HC at CofC) Earl Grant, and I randomly ran into Earl and his family waiting in line for oysters in Nawlins at the 2022 Final Four. Real talk, as Brownell's assistant, Earl got me Cameron tix in the Clemson section for a Clemson @ Duke game where I wore Duke gear much to their chagrin. (I'd probably wear neutral now....)

All that to say, I have a real soft spot for CofC and their coaching lineage. I really love John Leopold Kresse V because he was so good to my late father. This game will be postponed but I really do like Pat Kelsey. I also hope we whup 'em when we play 'em.

I have no inside information today, but I fully expect Louisville to be able to fly here and get to Durham--perhaps even the WaDuke or JB Duke under the circumstances--before ice storm round 2 gets too bad by 7PM here. That doesn't mean some of us will have power to watch the game.

Agree, so far the conditions much better than predicted locally. Unless we see far more freezing rain tonight, I suspect game will be played.

Yes, they could. However, they have no obligation to do so. Would they want to?

Seems like they would want this game to be played to avoid a week with 3 games later in the season - unless they want more time to get Mikel up to full speed before they play us again.

I can't wait to see us against him.

Based on Brevity's post to open the thread, from Coach of UL’s press conference after Saturday’s game:

Coach Kelsey: "As of right now, we can't get out tomorrow. We're flying day of game. Awesome. Let's figure it out. You know, when do you ever do that?

So, assuming Duke2X was referring to an ice storm today around 2:00, not sure that’s how it is going to go down. I would guess 60/40 no game tomorrow. But I slept at home last night, not a Holiday In Express, so what do I know?

No Duke2x said ice storm round #2 which should begin this evening and last 4-5 hours. I think it all depends on Lewville now.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to play the game on Tuesday or Wednesday instead of moving it to another week? Neither team plays again until Saturday.

Louisville airport still has afternoon flights scheduled. Duke just sent an email saying the game is still on for now.
Duke has less prep time on Brown's return for this game on Monday, but I'm sure the staff has thought that out.

We’d be coming from Cary, and I am so torn about what to do! Two kiddos and leaving a game after 9pm and unknown road conditions. Have tickets through the Iron Dukes ticket exchange and no refunds means $800 down the drain if we don’t go. Anyone live closer to Duke who might want to buy the tickets if the roads don’t clear??

Kresse was a stud. They love their basketball at CofC. No football. Kelsey is great. From CofC. Man has he turned Louisville around.

Plus…. everyone loves a COUGAR. ( college of Charleston is the “Cougars). relative there said they should sell more shirts like “ I’m a Cougar mom”

I’ll be leaving Cary as well. I’m going to give plenty of time to get to and from. Not as worried about getting there as the drive home.

Duke sent an email this afternoon to ticket holders saying that the game is on as scheduled unless they advise otherwise. It’s presumptively a go, apparently.
