[Note: For this preview, I'm assuming that the game will take place as scheduled on Monday, whether or not we actually weather the weather.]
The 5th-ranked Duke Blue Devils (18-1, 7-0 ACC) get a rematch in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the Louisville Cardinals (14-5, 4-3 ACC), ranked 23rd in the AP poll, just 20 days after their first game at the KFC Yum! Center, which Duke won 84-73. Part Two should tip off at 7pm ET, to watch or stream on ESPN (streaming link, listen, live stats).
With the NFL regular season over, ESPN needs high-end content for Monday nights, so this is the first of three Saturday-Monday turnarounds on Duke's schedule. Fortunately, none of them involve long distance travel.
Duke hosts Wake Forest (1/24), Duke hosts Louisville (1/26)
Duke hosts Clemson (2/14), Duke hosts Syracuse (2/16)
Duke hosts Virginia (2/28), Duke at NC State (3/2)
This is also a quick turnaround for the Cards, who hosted and beat Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon (85-71: recap, box score, highlights, presser). Freshman point guard Mikel Brown Jr returned to action in his first appearance since December 13. He scored a team-high 20 points in his belated ACC debut, and added 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal. Starting center Sananda Fru added a double-double, with 13 points and 10 boards. After the game, head coach Pat
Kelsey said that due to the weather, they would not be traveling on Sunday. Read his quote below.
Coach Kelsey: "As of right now, we can't get out tomorrow. We're flying day of game. Awesome. Let's figure it out. You know, when do you ever do that? I'm going back to my winter days, man. Big South. Drive five hours to Radford, eat some sandwiches on the bus on the way there for pregame meal, play the game, and drive back. Been there, done that.
So we'll figure it out. And I don't know. Weather and injuries, I can't control either one of those. We'll see how this thing all plays out. Looking forward to the challenge. Obviously, we all know how good Duke is. It should be a big time college basketball game."
I'll have more to say about the Louisville Cardinals later this weekend, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Feel free to talk about Monday's game here.
