StatBroadcast fell asleep at the beginning of the game, finally showed up later in the first half, was touch and go for a while, and came through at the end. Sounds familiar.

Their live stats are now a box score. Discuss the outcome here.

SMU is good. They’re quick, long, aggressive, and experienced. We earned that one, and our B game was good enough without Boopie Miller. Will need an A game if we see them in the ACCT.

Nice bounceback game for Big Pat. Nice to see Nik get some run. Probably a confidence building game for Cayden. One more Quad 1 win.

Next play!

SMU has some dudes. They might be the second best team in the conference this season.

This team is getting it done in different ways each game. I think that's a strength. Today it was big games from Pat and Isaiah. Good to see Cayden and Nik both playing well too.

I’ll take it, because why wouldn’t I?

A balanced scoring effort was nice. Loved Pat and Cayden bouncing back from poor outings last game.

SMU was carving our defense up in the 2nd half tho. The interior defenders were holding up ok but they were getting in prime positions way too easily, either off the dribble or with easy entry passes.

Gritty win against a good offensive team. They shot really well, but causing turnovers was crucial. We were all hoping for a blowout, especially when they were without their best player, but credit them. They're really good.

Big game from Pat, and Slim is coming into his own.

Some nitpicks:
  1. Caleb with a donut and a very poor game after the best game of his career. I don't like that at all.
  2. Really bad start. Again. Coach Scheyer needs to fix that.
  3. Missed some front ends of 1-and-1s. But otherwise decent FT shooting.

I worry that the team is still full of bad habits and fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you see it, they're learning that 20 mins of competent basketball is enough to just win. It's now the middle of Jan so it may be a touch too far to change much in terms of what they're doing so I guess we just watch and see where it ends. I can't want them to be better when they don't care about anything the first half of games.

Duke wins another ugly one. It’s never pretty and I don’t know how they keep getting it done when you look at their play for enormous stretches of these games, but they DO get it done.

Duke absolutely has to defend better and get more from Caleb (was he playing through sickness or injury today?). These games will soon turn from close wins to losses if not. We were really fortunate to be at home and not have Boopie “going Bootsy” on us. Shout out to Isaiah for hitting clutch baskets/free throws and Big Pat for stepping up his scoring. I was a little disappointed in Cam for only scoring 18 though. 😉

On to the west coast!

This team seems to need a bit of adversity to play at their best...a dangerous way to live by.

Really believe Duke has developed a habit of not being physically warmed up and focused going all the way back to the last decade or so of the K era...might be the routine the coaches have become accustomed to.

Yes, he hurt his foot fairly late in the second half. He was limping, but they didn’t show it, so I’m not sure what happened.
Was wondering why they did not play Dame at the end. His defense today was a real catalyst for the team in the first half.
