MBB: Duke 69 Arizona 55 Postgame Thread

13 points 7 rebounds on 4-11 shooting 3-6 from deep is considered struggling? What are these impossible standards? I thought Kon played great.

Arizona’s entire game plan was to deny him the ball in the first half, and bring help when he drove the ball. I came away MORE impressed with him for how he was able to adjust within the game to score 11 in the 2nd half and lead us to a big W.

True, but he is also 3-5 inches shorter than Kon. Height is not everything when it comes to rebounding but it certainly helps.
Kon had 7 rebounds against Arizona and 5 against Kentucky, but only 4 against Army and 2 against Maine.

So now it's your turn to lecture us on how Kon has to prove he can rebound against the weak opponents and not just the Top25 teams. 🙃

Kaze , you and I watched the same game. The negativity is just bizarre. I don't remember it at this unfair of a level for any other Duke player.

Come on, man. Is that really how you view these freshmen?

I will punch out on my Duke fandom before I ever justify my criticism like this. But you do you.
True, I would criticize them anyway. But it does make it harder to relate to them when an 18-year-old “college” kid is making 10x your salary and you’ve been working for 45 years. How we distribute income in this country is insane, but I guess that’s for another thread. Just don’t tell us plebes to not poke at the patricians.

Hey Foster, I'm with you. Wealth inequality at record levels. The oligarchy taking over the country. Crazy times.

But I don't fault our Duke basketball players. As they say, don't hate the players, hate the game. Cheering for Duke basketball is a nice distraction from the insanity...

Really!?!

I have been trying to de-escalate with you and you pull this happy horse 💩. Talk about negativity. If you want to be Kon's biggest cheerleader, go wild. That's your opinion which you are entitled to and I respect that. Other posters are entitled to their opinions, even if they don't align with yours.

You think Kon is great. Wonderful! I am super happy for you. I think Kon has tremendous potential with some possible challenges to reaching greatness this season. I have made two errors in dealing with you. The first is pushing back on your wildly inaccurate statements. Who am I? The Kon police? I apologize for that and will not be doing that anymore. The second is not being clear that I am not down on Kon, but more wait and see. My first mistake significantly compounded the second.

Even though we are online, I do believe we can disagree in a more civil manner. I apologize for my part in lowering the discourse.

You clearly can't see it, but you single out Kon for your negativity. You cherry-pick stats (which is easy to do) to try to prove he is a bad rebounder or bad defender or bad at finishing in the lane or bad at whatever.

And you're doing this for a kid who is wildly exceeding preseason expectations. And who is only 5 games into his freshman season...

You could easily be doing this for Caleb or Mason or other players, but you're not.

Kon is far from a finished product. He's got a LOT of room for improvement. We all get it and agree. But stop hammering on the kid. You've been doing it for months and it's ridiculous.

After catching up on this thread, I began to think we lost to AZ. I don't think it's wrong to discuss some short comings of said players but to get into a 3-page war is boring. I'll take a break and get ready for church and come back later when the war is over.

GoDuke!

Yeah, I like both posters involved but you guys need to “get a room” on this Kon debate - it has gotten very tiresome for the rest of us

Thinking the same thing. Is there a way to banish posters to a "drone-on board" until they get out of their systems whatever is in them?

Or at least get them some fresh cornflakes?
I have apologized to SkyB via PM and I apologize to the rest of the board. I won't be wasting others' time with that malarkey in the future.

I don't question Kon's decision making. He is an exceptionally smart player. The athleticism is the issue. He struggles to get by players and when he does he can't get any separation. I am a bit surprised he doesn't have a floater.

I agree that Kon and Man Man seem to have a great 2-man game. Tyrese is very good as well but he doesn't get many opportunities off the ball. Man Man has great hands for a freshman big.
Oh I don't agree with this take at all. I would argue his offensive game is INCREDIBLY advanced. He is a very good ball handler and his pacing and decision making are exceptional for an 18 year old. He is a great 3 point shooter. He is much more advanced offensively than JJ, Allen or Kennard were as freshmen. He gets to any spot he wants to on the floor. He is just 18 years old and doesn't yet have the strength to make all his shots in the paint when he gets there. But there is a reason NBA scouts are salivating over him. His offensive repertoire off the dribble, 3 point shooting and ball handling make him an incredible NBA prospect.

I struggled with only 1 class in college: the bourgeoisie.
