MBB: Duke 67, Florida 66 Postgame Thread

Great win, elite defense. But someone else needs to step up and score. Can’t have Foster, Sarr, Cayden, and Nik all being complete non factors on offeny

My takeaway from this game is that a held ball is now a hostile act.

Duly noted

Such good defense from Pat in this game.

This Florida team isn’t as good as last year’s, but still has enough talent to beat anybody. If they can cleanup the turnover issue they will make some noise in March
Only in slow motion

Looking ahead to Saturday Harris has to get more minutes. I want to see him shoot the 3-4 uncontested 3's that are wide open in the corner that Sarr and Khamenia aren't making right now. Michigan St. is awesome on defense right now but there offense isn't very good and play at a slower pace so he shouldn't be overwhelmed.

5 thoughts...

1. Another tough test passed! UF kept fighting and took advantage of Duke's slow 2nd half start. CamB with another monster game, but Haugh seemed like he was everywhere (he was impressive). Still when it was do or die time, the Devils prevailed offensively and defensively. Big win.

2. Evans showed his inside moves, and though I would wager he never gets 5 blocks in a game again, they were needed this time. But he was so cold from 3... until it mattered. Money. He made the shot that mattered most.

3. IMO Ngongba's best overall game in a Duke uniform. With the exception of that ill-advised 3 at the end, he played so well. The assists and blocks were great. But what most impressed me was only 2 fouls while banging away inside. Both he and CamB did well. If I were Florida, I would have tried to draw more fouls. If one of those guys (or Brown) had fouled out, Duke might never have gotten a rebound.

4. This team is not perfect. Scoring is lopsided, the slow starts and lapses are frustrating, there are no guarantees from the FT line and shot selection sometimes is questionable. These are things that need help. I was screaming at the TV about rebounds, but honestly the Gators are so good that that. Their guards are so quick, I can understand why Duke didn't crash more. Luckily despite being killed on the glass, Duke won.

5. Despite Fland hitting that 3, Duke did a good job on their guards at the perimeter. I thought Duke was going to kill them on TOs. But after the initial start, UF calmed down and controlled the ball better. Duke's D still held, though, punctuated by Brown's last deflection. Love that guy!

It does kinda feel like the stage is set for someone to ascend. Who will it be?

Dame is clearly working through some things.

Nik wants it, but he hasn't found it yet.

Cayden has shown flashes, but still can get surprised by the step up in athleticism.

Darren isn't yet there on defense or ball handling, but he does look improved.

We need one (or more) of these guys to give us good, somewhat consistent play.

- Chillin
One will rise up. My bet is Nik. But they all will improve. And no worries - we are 9-0.

Duke 67, Florida 66 (recap, box score, highlights, presser)

Hey, is that Jim Boeheim in the background?

A late three-pointer from Isaiah Evans propelled No. 4 Duke past No. 15 Florida, 67-66, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Blue Devils (9-0) were paced on offense by Cameron Boozer, who posted 29 points to help Duke secure the victory over the Gators (5-3) in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Boozer and Evans (13 points) were joined in double-figures by Patrick Ngongba II, who scored 11 points, while also adding five rebounds, five assists and five blocks. Caleb Foster posted six points, five rebounds, two assists and capped his night on the defensive end with a steal in the dying seconds of the game to solidify the Blue Devils' win.

Maliq Brown scored six points and grabbed six rebounds, while swiping two key steals – including the key deflection on Florida's final attempted inbounds pass.

I don't know if this Facebook video of the Duke presser will embed or not. (If not, scroll up to post #102. @AlaskanAssassin got it to work.)

From Duke MBB: Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans have their own answer to the recently revived What time is it? thread.

You may be right, but I'm not sure his blocks are a fluke. His current block% is 6.2% in 228 minutes (which is insane for a guard).

Here are Duke's best 15 block percentages over the past 20 years (plus this year). 150 minutes minimum.

1. Derreck Lively 2023: 12.7%
2. Mark Williams 2022: 11.4%
3. Mark Williams 2021: 9.6%
4. Marques Bolden 2019: 8.5%
5. Patrick Ngongba 2026: 7.7%
6. Wendell Carter 2018: 7.6%
7. Shelden Williams 2006: 7.5%
8. Marques Bolden 2018: 7.4%
8. Theo John 2022: 7.4%
10. Javin DeLaurier 2019: 7.0%
11. Khaman Maluach 2025: 6.8%
12. Chase Jeter 2017: 6.7%
12. Marshall Plumlee 2014: 6.7%
14. Isaiah Evans 2026: 6.2%
14. Sean Stewart 2024: 6.2%

Basically, all centers plus Evans.

I would put the entire team on shooting drills with Jayce McCain. This team willed its way to a win. Fantastic finish to a stressful down to the wire. All of bench need to be able to score points. Evans will hopefully light the fire next game . Sarr,Harris , Khamenia and Cayden need to lighten the scoring load off of Cameron. Ngongba needs more touches. Jon said that. Pat was fantastic. Caleb was better last game but nevertheless it was a great team win. Hough, Condon are outstanding and Florida was a great test for Duke. Fantastic defensive plays by Maliq. Tipping the inbounds pass was a thing of beauty.

The blackout was a bust. The crowd was pretty weak tonight, sleepy and dull. Crazies were too busy looking for themselves on the stadium screen. C- we don't inflate grades in Cameron. Boozer, Cam took a real pounding inside, unbeknownst to Roger the Ref. Game seemed like it would never end. We don't need gimmicks in Cameron, just pay attention and cheer, kids.
Really? I thought Cameron looked livelier than it had in a long time. Students were going nuts down the stretch- it’s looked so dull the past few years this was a breath of fresh air. Black was menacing
