Yes. This is much ado about not much. They're not great, but they'll rebound from one bad road trip.
I don't know who runs accnation.net, but the names in this article made me laugh:

Who would be an ideal candidate to fill a vacancy at North Carolina in men's basketball? We asked AI to list the Top 8. See if you agree on 1 or 2.accnation.net
Someone should start a write-in campaign advocating for lifetime contracts for Hubert and Bill. Yeah, that's the ticket. This was some daggum journalism. In reality Hubert and bill should keep their gigs forever.
Now, now. Writing in crayon is still writing…On second thought if involves writing they would know it wasn't Heel fans doing it. So there's that.![]()
Yeah, I'd say losing by 14 at SMU and barely beating a so-so Wake team by 3 at home is hardly "one bad road trip."Yeah, but this is their second bad road trip after losing at SMU, and their next road trip is Virginia on Saturday. They can still rebound into an okay season, but my sense is that UNC fans were expecting more than “okay” after their portal spending spree.
Agreed, and though I am an acknowledged SMU fan, I also have to note that since whipping the Heels by 14, the Ponies have fumbled away a game at Klempsun, put in a more-than-respectable losing effort without Boopie in Cameron (as everyone here knows), beat Virginia Tech by 1 on a half-court prayer, and lost to UVa. Nothing overly embarrassing for the Ponies in any of that, but definitely not a team that took their dismantling of uNC and somehow went on a tear; uNC's collapse in Dallas instead looks more like a bigger blemish on uNC.Yeah, I'd say losing by 14 at SMU and barely beating a so-so Wake team by 3 at home is hardly "one bad road trip."
Since the calendar turned, Torvik says Carolina has been the #75 team in the land. They have played the 293rd best defense since Jan 1. Their EFF-FG% defense is 364th in the country during that time... there are precisely 365 teams in D1 basketball. In case you are wondering, Cornell is #365th.
They picked up some good players this year - notably Wilson and Veesar - but they really whiffed at PG. Evans has shown that he can't run the team or defend.
I think if they'd held onto Cadeau instead of running him out of town, they might be more of a top-15ish team this season even with Hube's suspect coaching.
Talent matters. And their cupboard is looking bare again for next season pending whatever they can hire from the portal.

As a Northeast PA native, I'm hoping that if they let Autry go, they bring in Gerry McNamara.I grew up and will always be a huge Syracuse fan. I am very worried about letting Autry go and not managing the job search well, but I am more worried about keeping him. I love him as a person but this year's team has massively underperformed.
So., the assumption is that when they promoted Autry, they should have looked one more spot further down the bench? McNamera has done ok at Sienna but we are still talking about a guy who has not coached a team that made it into the top half of college basketball. As a Northeast PA native, I'm hoping that if they let Autry go, they bring in Gerry McNamara.
Really good point. I honestly don't pay attention to Syracuse except when we play them so I really can't comment but I agree with what you said about it being a proud program that really should be back competing with the big dogs so it makes sense to cast a wide net outside of the Syracuse family tree.So., the assumption is that when they promoted Autry, they should have looked one more spot further down the bench? I am unsure of the NIL situation at Syracuse, seems like it is ok but not great, but I would hope that proud program would cast a wide net if they look for a new coach. This is a legendary program that really should be an annual top 25 contender.
Then there is the view that rather than an expensive buyout of a failing coach, just keep the Sad Sack and spend the money on players.I'm not familiar with all the contract situations (as in, how much would a buyout cost) but I would assume Grant (BC), Capel (Pitt), Autry (Syracuse) and Stoudemire (GT) are the main hot seat candidates in the ACC. I'm guessing Forbes (Wake) gets another year because of the family tragedies he had this year and Shrewsberry (ND) gets another year because of the injuries

I think there is a lot of truth to sagegrouse's post -- I'm not totally in agreement with the "Sad Sack" characterization, however. It seems that all six of these guys are pretty good coaches (and have been lauded as so by others on this board). The common denominator for all of them is inconsistent talent. Then there is the view that rather than an expensive buyout of a failing coach, just keep the Sad Sack and spend the money on players.
kmmk wasn’t talking about three years ago, kmmk was talking about today. McNamara now has three years of head coaching experience, not zero.So., the assumption is that when they promoted Autry, they should have looked one more spot further down the bench?
