Duke hosts a charity exhibition game against Arizona State on Sunday, October 27, at 7pm ET, to be broadcast on the ACC Network (streaming link, live stats). It's called the Brotherhood Run, and you can read more about the game from GoDuke.

Duke men's basketball national champions Jon Scheyer and Bobby Hurley will meet on the hardwood as opposing head coaches when Duke hosts Arizona State in the Brotherhood Run charity exhibition game at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Duke Children's Hospital.

"We are excited about the Brotherhood Run, playing Arizona State for a charity exhibition game. This is the first time we've done something like this," said Scheyer. "Duke Children's Hospital has been a great partner to our program for a long time, starting with Coach K, and to keep that relationship going means a lot to me and to our program. We couldn't be more excited to partner with them to raise funds and awareness for all the incredible work they are doing."

The Sun Devils beat UC Irvine 70-65 in a closed scrimmage Saturday. Aside from the score, all I've found is that freshman Jayden Quaintance, senior Alston Mason, and junior Shawn Phillips stood out, according to this post in Rivals (paywall, but that part is readable).


Until a better preview of Arizona State's team comes along, I offer this breakdown of their roster:

Caleb Love is running it back.

The rising fifth-year senior announced on Wednesday that he's withdrawing from the NBA Draft and returning to Arizona for his final season of eligibility. The news prompted a decommitment from top-25 wing Joson Sanon, who promptly switched his commitment to rival Arizona State.

The article embeds Sanon's Instagram announcement, which simply says "add STATE to it #ForksUp". Yet another consequence of a team relying on Caleb Love. I'm reminded of that scene in The Prestige where Nikola Tesla (David Bowie) warns Hugh Jackman's magician character, and I'm paraphrasing:

"Have you considered the cost of retaining Caleb Love?"
"We have plenty of NIL resources. Money is not an object."
"Perhaps not, but have you considered the *cost*?"


Anyway, if NBA scouts wanted to attend any preseason charity exhibition game, this is the one. There are 8 freshmen ranked in the RSCI top 100 (not including Patrick Ngongba) who will probably play.

I forgot Quaintance went to ASU. He's a man child down low. 6-9, 230, with a 7-3 wingspan. And believe it or not, he's 6 months younger than Cooper. He's not even eligible to be OAD. How often does that happen?

Will be interesting watching him vs Khaman.

I think it's just his first time back to Cameron in an official capacity. I'm sure he's been to a game as a guest at least once since 1993.

I know you guys don't want to hear this (again), but I'm still surprised Hurley wasn't offered the Duke job. Was K a big winner at Army? No but Tom Butters had the foresight to see his potential. As it turns out, obviously Scheyer has done very well.
 
If I recall correctly, when Amaker was mentioned, Coach K said he would prefer the next coach to be on staff for one year prior or head coach… and Amaker wasn’t coming to be an assistant. Probably applied to Hurley as well.

One of the surprise roster additions of the offseason was ASU landing five-star Jayden Quaintance, who could help prove this ranking too dismissive. Best of all, due to his age, he's not eligible to be drafted until 2026. It's not just Quaintance; ASU also got a football-style flip in Joson Sanon, who balked on his commitment to Arizona and took to Tempe. I've got the Sun Devils low, however, because relying on freshmen and portal adds from the mid-major ranks (Missouri State's Alston Mason and Milwaukee's BJ Freeman are expected to be prominently featured) could be a challenging playbook in the best league in the country.
