Long Strange Trip

That sounds like a great experience, and you may have been at the legendary “Warlocks” ‘89 show. All shows in Hampton were special though.

Dead shows were far more than the music. It was the whole ride. Fireworks, calliopes, and clowns. The parking lot scene was as much of the experience as the scene in the venue.

Glad you got to experience it, and that the experience was generally positive.
Yep, good times, especially the parking lot fun, and if that experience could be recreated I’d go again in a heartbeat.

Too bad you missed out on Dead & Company. It was the same scene. (And 99% the same music.) I'm not into Phish, I've never felt that vibe, but I know the lots are pretty similar. (By the way, Phish played Box of Rain as a show opener tonight)

It will be tempting, but IF I go, it will be on a ticket that I buy in March. One of the Facebook comments had me laughing...

"Well, there goes my kids' Christmas presents"* :ROFLMAO:

*Some genius decided to put them on sale in a week, right during the height of shopping season.

I seem to remember that tickets were somewhat available close to the show dates. Am I misremembering?

(I would say "reasonably-priced tickets" but my first Dead show ticket cost $8 and you could buy whole East Coast Tour Books without much difficulty)

No, you're correct, which is why IF I go, I'm not jumping at tix right away.

I have not gotten tickets yet, waiting to see if any of them hit the portal before committing.

(too soon?)
add it to the list: bought the farm, kicked the bucket, hit the portal. Well played, sir.

I guess the other shoe to drop is the gossip that Soldier Field has been reserved over 4th of July for some sort of celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Dead. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it.

This is fun. So this time I'm taking my brave wife, who wouldn't go last year because of the way Sphere is setup with steep seats. The tix I got are in the same section as we were in for June, because I know they are low and flat. While going through photos, I realized that I had a pic of the two we'll be sitting in for our trip. :)

When they opened up one door and risked a Cincinnati type scene. Great show aside from that ...
Clearly, you were there with us that night! 🍻

Add to the single door insanity, there were two different color general admission tickets (one for lower and one for upper). We scored floor seats and got a couple rows up on the pull out bleachers to be eye level with Jerry. Perfect spot and then another major problem. Jerry decided to change sides of the stage before the show!

Yep, I was there, but i didn't have floor seats.

I didn't make it to the Sphere, but I did pull the trigger on the Golden Gate Park shows next month. My buddy who did three Sphere weekends said, "Hard pass. I'm expecting a disaster.." (not sure why? perhaps because the visuals won't be able to keep up?)

I'd trade an outside show for an inside one any day, even if it is Sphere. I strongly thought about hitting up San Fran, but since my wife joined me for the last weekend in Vegas this year, making another outing across the country just a few months later wasn't in the cards. Unlike Sphere shows, I'm sure these three will be broadcast live on Nugs, so I'll be watching and dancing in my backyard.

Have a great time!

Side note, I'm looking forward to seeing Oteil & Friends in Charleston. Nice change from the big crowds with only 2k capacity. The last time I saw Melvin Seals was with JGB in '91; I'm looking forward to hearing him on the keys again.

Enjoying D&C's Grateful Dead 60 years celebration from San Francisco on Nugs tonight. The 2nd set kicked off with Box of Rain, with Grahame Lesh on lead vocals, and replacing Oteil on bass. Oteil sat out the 2nd song too. (Playing in the Band)

It was a really nice way to open set two.
