Larrañaga officially steps down at Miami

This does happen to us including after 2022 when we reached the Final Four. Jon has just been on a ridiculous hot streak with recruiting that we're able to reload better than other teams. I guess it's the second part of your statement that doesn't apply to Duke ("hard time finding new players"), but we're certainly not immune to roster turnover.
But if we couldn't replenish? We won't be very happy. Imagine we did bad in terms of new blood and end up with 15 losses. It's easy to judge people from a comfortable POV. Laranaga might have utilized transfers. But I bet he would much prefer what he did with George Mason.

Thats my point.

I'm talking about the Millennial job hoppers who make countless lateral moves because they're "not happy" "not fulfilled" etc and usually take a 2-4 month sabbatical in between 6-12 month employment stints. Count yourself lucky if you have no idea what I am talking about.

In their defense, the world is far worse when it comes to inequality, lack of future prospects, career development, huge debt due to college, rent, no helath care or unaffordable etc.

The last 20 years we have seen rich get richer and richer, real pay declining, employers treating workers like they mean nothing, a legal system that favors corporations and real lack of reason to work or live.

Duke is 80+k per year yet a lot of the jobs pay the same as they did when I graduated 26 years ago.

I do not blame folks for having little interest in jobs, loyalty or any long term plans because those are for the most part taken away from them.

And yes, the world is incredibly unfulfilling for most younger folks. We can't expect people to buy in for a future where they have no possibility of moving up despite working hard.

It seems both Hamilton and Larranaga stuck around too long. They both hurt their legacy’s. And they hurt the ACC. Hopefully both schools will do a better job of hiring new coaches than most of the other ACC schools have done, Duke of course excepted.
These two coaches have a fair amount in common. First, they both have had great success in their coaching careers. Secondly, they both seem to be especially outstanding human beings.

Tell me you’re a fan with sky high expectations without telling me you’re a fan with sky high expectations.

BTW, I would have included an NCAA regional championship in your list of achievements.
His comment was in response to "we reload better than others". I actually think he raised a good point by illustrating that if we do actually reload better than others, it has not necessarily manifested itself in final results. I think you could clearly make that case from 1985-2005. when we were routinely traveling to the Final Four. Our results from 2006 on have not been as robust.

Aren't those two different statements, though? "we reload better than others", versus "we aren't reloading as well as the GOAT at the height of his achievements"? Some of the other teams that have had success in the past 20 years are Kentucky, UNC, Villanova, and UConn, and I think it's fair to say they are having more trouble reloading than we are (UConn TBD).

Thank you. I had decided to let that go (but since it came back up...), even though snarky replies from people that either can't or won't comprehend a clear original post are annoying. Especially when my posts from that very day included (emphasis added):

"If we're only going to win occasional championships (which I am fine with, despite your assumption), I'd rather do it with kids who are here a few years. YMMV, which is fine."

"2011 was the beginning of the 1&D era for Duke, and in those 13 years 1 NC (and only 1 other Final Four)"

Have we won as many NCs as some other schools since 2011? Sure. And some won more. But in the previous 20 years we won 4, and no other school did. There is absolutely no doubt (data is data) that Duke has not performed as well. The discrepancy in ACC Championships is just as stark. The only question is whether Duke would have been worse by not going to 1&D, and that is unknowable.

On his Sirius XM show, Coach K comments on Jim Larrañaga's retirement. From On3:

Krzyzewski called the current landscape “ridiculous” as he reacted to Larrañaga’s decision. While he said players should be able to profit off their name, image and likeness, he noted the lack of “step-by-step” process by the NCAA to prepare for the NIL and portal world.

anyone know who K was sitting next to the other night (in Coach Corner, in front of Bucky)?
I don't know but Coach K and the gentleman covered their mouths a couple of times when speaking. Probably discussing all the missed/no calls by the refs.

GoDuke!
