Kon Knueppel declares for the NBA Draft

Jordan Mann, who breaks down Duke basketball on his JMann channel on YouTube, has an interview with Kon Knueppel that was released Friday.

Jordan Mann: "Look, 6-7 guard, one and done from Duke, now you're preparing for the NBA Draft with the combine. How's everything going your way?

Kon Knueppel: "Hey, I'll correct you right away. I'm 6-6 in shoes. I want to throw that out there right away, because I know they listed me at 6-7. I was in some Air Forces that day, and I tried to correct that early on in the season."

Breaking news! I guess we'll know his NBA Combine measurements soon.
yeah, Im always skeptical of heights we are told by all teams. I like to watch guys walk by each other

The Charlotte Hornets, who currently hold the #4, #33, and #34 draft picks, posted about 20 combine interviews from this week, including Ace Bailey and Tre Johnson and Kon Knueppel.

Cyro Asseo, a reporter for HoopsHype/USA Today, posted even more of these combine interviews, and has a separate Kon Knueppel video that does not overlap with the Charlotte one.

Great footage, great interview. Looks like he's settled into 5-10 in most all the mock drafts.

I hope he lands in a situation where he can earn minutes right away. I think he could show up just like McCain and start putting up some 20 point games early in his career.

Kevin O'Connor, who left The Ringer for Yahoo! Sports last year, did a 20-minute podcast interview with Kon Knueppel that came out Monday.

Kevin O'Connor: "You shot 43 percent off the catch from three this season, according to Synergy. Mid-range you shot 16-of-37 (43 percent) on pull-up jumpers. From three on pull-ups, only 3-of-21 (14 percent). What is the key to extending your range from mid-range to three-point range off the dribble? What are you working on to improve that?"

Kon Knueppel: "I'm just trying to get more comfortable. 21 shots in a whole season, play 40 games, small sample size. I wasn't really comfortable shooting those, to be completely honest. I didn't shoot a ton of them in high school. So I've just got to get reps, got to get better at it, get more comfortable, and I'll get better from there. The mid-range, too. We didn't shoot a lot of mid-range at Duke. I want that to be more of a staple in my game because I think that's a great shot for me."

Kevin O'Connor: "You don't take a lot of floaters either. Was that more of a Duke thing? Not taking floaters, going more to the rim?"

Kon Knueppel: "Yeah, we didn't take a lot of non-rim twos. We wanted end out threes and layups. But when you're on a great team, you're always working to get a great shot, and I think working more on that individual stuff will be good, and I'll be more efficient at those going forward."

Thank you for sharing. Not that I had any doubt, but Kon is on another level for an 18-year old basketball player as it relates to basketball IQ (and statistical IQ, throwing out small sample size alerts!).

I'm going to admit to all of you who were on Kon Island at the beginning of the season back in October, that I didn't see it at first. He seemed slow to get his shot off, and was hurrying shots when he was open.

The End of Season Kon was simply a pleasure to watch. I think he really developed his offensive game, along with the coaching staff figuring out how to get him open. He never forced things, but showed when Cooper was out just how dominant he could be at the college level.

I have never been happier to be wrong. Well, I've been wrong so many times that may be an exaggeration but nonetheless I was very happy how this young man asserted himself and made himself a high draft choice. He deserves all the success he achieves.

Yeah, the disappointing end to our season would have felt profoundly different without Kon carrying the weight in the ACC Tournament. Really showed some moxie, along with the rest of our young men.

Shooting pull-up 3s off the dribble (vs catch and shoot) is definitely an elite skill that Kon has yet to master.

Here are the top 6 guys in the NBA in terms of 3-point makes per game off the dribble. Ant Edwards, Doncic, Tatum, Trae Young, Harden, Curry. A good skill to master if you want to be a star.
But I wouldn't count Kon out on those pull-up shots. He made a believer out of me this past season. Kon will work hard on those type shots I'm really rooting for the young man.
